We shouldn't have troops over there in the first place.

Leaving them in harm's way is irresponsible and just invites further attacks.

No but I do think he should not start bombing other middle eastern countries that aren't involved which seems to be a hallmark of the US whenever the Saudis or Iranians attack them..

Imagine invading almost every oil rich country on the other side of the planet, just to build military bases and steal their recources and wealth for decades and then whining when some of the intruders get killed.

In private life, when you for example hike or camp in bear teritory and a bear kills you, who is to blame - the bear or you for beeing there in the first place?

Let's hope this doesn't get to the point where Joe is forced to say "DON'T" to Iran again.

THAAD stands for Terminal High Altitude Air Defense. In this case, "high" means up to about 90 miles altitude. That's where ballistic missiles live, not where aerial drones live. A THAAD would never be used against a relatively low and slow aerial drone. The suggestion of THAAD not being effective shows that whoever wrote that article has no clue what they are talking about.

A Patriot missile would be effective against an aerial drone, but there would have to be a Patriot battery within range, and there probably aren't enough Patriots in existence to cover every vulnerable spot. Iran has definitely figured this out and located the thin spots in our defenses. We will now return the favor by figuring out where the launch sites were and who was running them. Then they'll get a visit in the night by some cruise missiles.

In the end, 3 troops died and dozens of people were injured. Initially I have no issue with what the response from the POTUS has been as I think it was firm though measured. Words are easy though so it is going to take time to see if his words are honest.

Those killed in the attack were sleeping in a tent at a place called Tower 22 in northeast Jordan, near the Syria border, and some of those injured are being evacuated from the country.

It sucks that right in the tinderbox zone where everything is kicking off you got some poor guys sleeping in a tent-surely the base would ave been on some level of high alert given the circumstances?

Or maybe they thought the base was well protected but this drone was a lucky strike?
Or did the base defences get overwhelmed by multiple drones?
