Rather than the media constantly recycling this story in a different guise, i'd like to see them poll the youth of today to see what they say to national service.

going by what i've read on X, they ain't fighting a war for anyone.

As a father i wouldn't be letting my kids go to war in a foreign land either when the supposed enemy has no interest in expanding their control beyond reunification of Russia and Ukraine.

If there was to be any such 'poll' it would have to be the whole electorate.
I have no problem with a short period of say 6-12 months of National Service - but it would be with the strict proviso that it can not include active service in a conflict zone outside of the UK.

Including themselves......they'd expect someone else to do the fighting for them.

As a father and grandfather neither do I....but sometimes you just got to stand up for your principles and for what is right.

By 'reunification' I take it you mean subjugate and control?
And do you really think that if Putin's invasion has gone unopposed his ambitions and desires would have stayed at that?

There will be a revolution if that ever comes to pass. This was not like WW2 when Germany threatened all of Europe, instead it is an unpopular war among Russians where the UK civilians have no patriotic chips in this skermish. Never will happen.

It also doesn't help that the UK authorities have been doing everything they can to strip away our rights to bear arms for many years now. And because its been portrayed so negatively, it means the majority of people are simply unaware of the benefits or safety use of firearms. So how could we ever be prepared for anything in this country?

The simple fact it can take almost a year to get a firearms certificate in many places in the UK shows just how poorly suited we are for conflict.

One of my biggest complaints about living in the UK: their terrible gun laws.

I think you may find the majority of the population in the UK are perfectly happy with the gun laws we have in place.

For a start, there have been no school shootings in this nation since the ban after Dunblane.

Dont really see what threads about conscription have to do with gun rights/ownership, or the laws that surround such.

If you post a thread on any subject with U.K in the title at least one septic will find a way of getting gun laws into the debate
