This is the response I expected from Abbott, but I have to entertain the thought that this could also be a catalyst for a showdown between federal and state forces. There is historical precedent, though Texas has not threatened secession, nor do I expect them to, but animosity is simmering in Texas. Let's hope it doesn't boil over. Although a statement by Tucker Carlson seems to be pointing in that direction...

He seems to be calling for a situation that could turn ugly in today's political climate, though I don't necessarily disagree.

Abbot is an idiot. There is a SCOTUS decision against him. Anyone interfering with its enforcement can be arrested and incarcerated on the spot. This includes any Texas politician or law enforcement officer. I hope US Marshalls star the roundups soon. Let's not forget, the feds can strip a state LEO of their career by excluding them from databases and firearms licenses for interfering with Federal authorities. Only true morons are going to follow the idiot governor orders.

Texas is not defying any ruling though.
The ruling only allows the feds to continue to cut it down until the lower court settles it. Even then, regardless of the final ruling, Texas can legally keep putting it up.

Think of it like a federal highway that is in disrepair. There is no law preventing the state from repairing it within their borders, but if some jackwagon wants to come in from the federal gov't and jackhammer it all back up, there may nothing they can do to stop it.

My gut tells me the feds will ultimately lose on this one, but who knows.
