Why did his authority to unilaterally dispatch the National Guard to the streets of DC suddenly disappear from a few months prior?

you would have to ask Miral Bowser that one. I don't do DC politics, but the Steve Sund interview covered this quite well.

Watching her get shot and killed was shocking and uncalled for IMO - I was shocked. If breaching that doorway/windows was so important to security requiring shooting and killing people, why did the officer shoot and kill only her and not continue shooting all the others involved in the breach? This just seems suspect to me but who knows what orders that officer was given.

Here's how officer Byrd described it:

"Once we barricaded the doors, we were essentially trapped where we were. There was no way to retreat. No other way to get out. If they get through that door, they're into the House chamber and upon the members of Congress." He stated that he had pulled the trigger as a "last resort" after the mob of protesters ignored his repeated orders to get back, and that he had no idea at that moment that Babbitt was unarmed and was a woman. Byrd commented: "I know that day I saved countless lives. I know members of Congress, as well as my fellow officers and staff, were in jeopardy and in serious danger."

It wasn't just an ordinary window. It was the entrance into what was essentially the last stand of the retreating Capitol Police and Congress members. No one else was shot there because no one else was about to get within arm's reach of the cops. That's also why rioters were NOT shot when they were smashing windows to get into the main entrance, for example.

Immediately after the shooting, many of the rioters left the scene and a Capitol Police emergency response team came in, administered first aid, and took Babbitt away to the hospital, where she died later.

George Floyd's family got millions, or so it appeared.

If you're cheering for one but not the other, then you might be partisan.

You may not be aware. Trump unilaterally called in over 5000 NG and law enforcement with air support in 2020.

Originally, DC government officials requested some of the National Guard forces at the start of last week to help manage the large crowds of people demonstrating against police violence. But thousands of additional federal troops were ordered by the President to "dominate" the streets after looting and violence erupted in the city following early demonstrations.

I believe that's the case as well. As I said, discovery will be epic.

Indeed. Ironically, the Trump team presentation during his riot-incitement trial will go a long ways with helping prove Ashli Babbitt was killed in cold blood, without justification. George Floyd deserved to die 1000x more than Ashli Babbitt.

Maybe if Epps was a President and spent a month inciting and encouraging the whole thing, while refusing to send help for hours the day of the incident, it would be like Trump.

It's not really a family neighborhood. Almost entirely rental property. There are some kids, but its mostly younger people splitting rent. I paid $790 for my share (2009-2012), that is now a $2,500 2 bedroom, maybe more. Had friends that split a 4 bedroom house for $3200 and a full yard.

A lot of restaurant workers, bartenders, pizza delivery, um... A lot of minimum wage + tips, honestly. And we still had TONS of expendable income.

The myths people have about splitting rent at the beach. Several neighborhoods are like that. We are only "the most expensive city" in the news. You cover your portion of rent in a week or so of pay and party the rest away.

The household income could be about 130k, split across 4 people. Mine was 75-80k split over two people.

Today, a unit with 3 residents, going for $3400, each likely have an income between $35,000 and $50,000, and would be perfectly fine. Several neighborhoods are like that. Lots of housholds that need several jobs to not be "Very Low Income".

Thanks Boomer for the info. but from what I'm reading other mobs were also trying to breach multiple doorways and no other officer fired into any of the other mobs at any other location. Was Byrd the only officer who believed that that level of force was needed in self-defense or in the protection of members of Congress. Something just doesn't sit right with me with this shooting.

The investigation further determined that Ms. Babbitt was among a mob of people that entered the Capitol building and gained access to a hallway outside “Speaker’s Lobby,” which leads to the Chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives. At the time, the USCP was evacuating Members from the Chamber, which the mob was trying to enter from multiple doorways. USCP officers used furniture to barricade a set of glass doors separating the hallway and Speaker’s Lobby to try and stop the mob from entering the Speaker’s Lobby and the Chamber, and three officers positioned themselves between the doors and the mob. Members of the mob attempted to break through the doors by striking them and breaking the glass with their hands, flagpoles, helmets, and other objects. Eventually, the three USCP officers positioned outside the doors were forced to evacuate. As members of the mob continued to strike the glass doors, Ms. Babbitt attempted to climb through one of the doors where glass was broken out. An officer inside the Speaker’s Lobby fired one round from his service pistol, striking Ms. Babbitt in the left shoulder, causing her to fall back from the doorway and onto the floor. A USCP emergency response team, which had begun making its way into the hallway to try and subdue the mob, administered aid to Ms. Babbitt, who was transported to Washington Hospital Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Part one of the Epoch Times J6 documentary, has footage of police firing non-lethal rounds, from a safe and elevated distance, into the crowd of protestors.

In another case, an officer is throwing non-lethal explosives blindly to into the crowd.

Ah OK, to protect his supporters. Guess that explains why he refused to call in any support despite being begged to by his family, lawyers and friends in congress, while the cops were being beaten and tased. Would have interfered with his supporters apparently. Can't have the NG protect them when they were the ones violently assaulting law enforcement and breaking down windows and doors.

This kind of crowd control is new to you? You were asleep in 2020? Must have missed the reporters and priests being pepperballed as well in Lafayette Square when they had no idea that Barr changed the curfew by an hour so the President could get his Bible photo. Weirdly, the crowd didn't retaliate by attacking the cops.

I also wonder why many brought weapons with them, guns, sharpened flag poles, tasers, 800v walking sticks, knives, bats, flexicuffs, etc on the 6th. Weird they were so prepared, when it seems to now be claimed it's the cops fault. Guess the other excuses didn't gain much traction.

I feel like the government is going to say that because the "insurrection" was a crime, the Jan. 6th protesters themselves are responsible for Ashli Babbitt's murder.

I dont agree with that so don't flame me, but I think the argument will be that if the Jan. 6th protesters weren't involved in a "crime" that she would not have gotten shot.

The most heavily armed society in the history of man attempts an insurrection with a few people who brought stun guns, pepper spray, baseball bats and used flagpoles as clubs.
Some of you folks will literally believe anything. LoL
I’m actually offended you think Americans wouldn’t know how to pull it off properly if that’s what they wanted to do.
