The Rowan County Kentucky clerk that denied a same sex marriage license in defiance of a US Supreme Court ruling based on HER religious beliefs was shot down again and now must pay the couple's attorneys' fees in addition to $100,000 in compensatory damages. She now owes $360,000 and counting

Why do so many members of the party of law and order think they are above the law?

Of course she says they will appeal but their loss rate is 100% right now and the plaintiffs legal fees she is now obligated to pay will grow exponentially at every level of appeal. There is no way the US Supreme Court will ever say a county official can disregard one of their orders. She is screwed! But she probably has some conservative superPAC throwing money down the drain to support her.

While I honestly respect her religious beliefs, if she unwilling to do the job she was elected to do then she should not have run for office! It's not like the wedding cake company that refused to make a cake for a gay couple. I would support their right to do as a private business but would likely personally boycott them, a government employee has absolutely no right to insert their personal beliefs into county business.

This is just disgusting. NOBODY has the right as a public official to refuse to follow the law otherwise half of the country would have refused to acquiesce the confirmation of the 2020 election, the most blatant, impossible, joke of an election that the world has ever seen. Even a bigger joke than the Kim family winning all te elections in North Korea. I'm not all that excited about Trans people getting married an having kids...especially because so many of them are determined to pass on transgenderism to their progeny and since it works like a disease and it spreads with exposure to it...generation X having 0.01% Trans population, gen z and alpha having 8% and now 12% of the population saying they are transgender. It is a situation which can be taught and that spreads as more people are exposed to it. It is nothing like normally occurring homosexuality which doesn't budge and sits at about 1.5-2% and always has and that is true for every single animal in the animal kingdom. But in her position I would have to keep that to myself and do the job.

You are right, though perhaps she can get something out of the law that allows muslim checkout workers not to touch a bottle of alcohol or pork products?

Seems to be the same thing there, religion getting in the way of doing your job.

That’s the problem with mixing Christianity and politics
Interesting that Jesus never got mixed up with politics but, His followers don’t Have An issue
Also interesting that Jesus never judged the non religious, just those who claimed the faith He represented
Politics is not part of Christianity

Bigots need to bigot. It's as simple as that.

Christianity and hypocrisy go hand and hand.

If you'd like a theocracy here in the USA why not go to Iran and live there a while and test the waters.

Pretty soon someone might not like blacks and whites getting married, and where would that leave Ginni and Clarence?

We learned from the very best, the democrats.

On topic: I remember this case well. I think the same thing now I thought at the time it happened. If she can't do her job, it's time to resign.

Not practicing what we preach is a common misstep for Christians(everyone obviously). We follow the rules until we don't get to do what we want, then we say it's an interpretation.

Thou shalt not judge is a pretty straightforward command stemming from the Bible, but plenty of verses are also available that state that God will deal with every person individually. On top of that, the book mentions to follow the "law of the land." Therefore, let him handle it, as is mentioned.

The democrats are notorious for thinking they are above the law. Take the George Floyd riots for example - breaking the law, assault, rioting, looting, destruction of private and government property ... all given a free pass and called 'free speech'.

Agreed.

Yes.

This was not a case of a private business.

This was a government employee.

This is incorrect. Not everyone was given a "free pass".

I've posted this already in a few different threads.

apnews.com...

The AP found that more than 120 defendants across the United States have pleaded guilty or were convicted at trial of federal crimes including rioting, arson and conspiracy. More than 70 defendants who’ve been sentenced so far have gotten an average of about 27 months behind bars. At least 10 received prison terms of five years or more.

You don't hear about this because in the news because it won't increase ratings. But

Tens of thousands of them were arrested, and I'd be willing to bet that a vast majority of them don't vote or affiliate with a political party.

I'll help with the source:

more than 17,000 protesters were arrested

The Hill

Over 300 arrested on Federal charges.
DOJ

You just don't hear about it because no one on the left is calling them "political prisoners" screeching about their "abuse" claiming they were set up by "feds", creating GoFundMe accounts, or having politicians visit them in jail. And having a former President promote a protestors "choir".

Good.

Can we go after democrats now who refuse to prosecute crimes and criminals, can we go after the current administration for failing to secure our borders?

If we're going to punish government officials for not doing their damned job, then lets make it fair.

No one is above the law, amirite?

This is as stupid as the baker issue. Seriously. Why did they not just use another clerk? She also starting denying ALL, not just gay submissions. Can those people sue also or are they out of luck CIS folk? Seems they did also....

This is also rural Kentucky. Sorry, this is a ploy by those who want the license to 'make a point'. This lady took over from her mom and had been working there without issue since 1991.

The US flag is removed from government buildings for being racist. Government employees taking knees.....this is all ok right because it is....not protected.

This is clown world 2.0.

That's just a fraction of the scumbags that were out destroying society.

You also failed to mention that many of the cities paid out tens of millions of dollars in settlements to those "protestors" because muh feelz.

Elected in 2014 as a lifelong Democrat when the "incident" happened in 2015. Of Course she was pressured to switch when the problems started. 🤣 Big PR debacle.

That's not the point. The fantasy is that none of the rioters were ever brought to justice. Which is not true. Doesn't matter if it's a fraction.

And yes the cities paid out settlements not because of "muh feelz". But because of civil rights violations. I don't know if you are for the police violating the publics civil rights. However I am not.
