My daily driver is a manual diesel VW. It’s hard to find newer manuals here, so I’ll keep it till it dies (should be a while). Something about rowing gears is just so satisfying, and its range is insane. I’ve gotten 800 miles on a single tank before.

I’m sure I’ll get an EV one day when charging and range is figured out, but I’ll keep the diesel too.

I drive a Chev 3500 diesel.

As soon as the warranty was up I had it de-rated at the advice of the dealer due to the major problems I experienced with the def system.

I have the Bully Dog module set to “economy” and I get over twenty miles per gallon now.

The emission increase is less that the mileage increase.

Probably more eco friendly without all those bells and whistles.

My city put their money where their mouth is and all it did was embarrass them and waste taxpayers money.

Edmonton's fleet of electric buses failing amid manufacturer's bankruptcy proceedings

During a news conference at the Kathleen Andrews Transit Garage, Iveson said the new buses were quiet, "super-efficient" and "particularly efficient financially." Though they cost more upfront — upwards of $1 million each — they were to be about 30 per cent less expensive to service and maintain than diesel buses.

Three years later, most of the city's 60 electric buses aren't fit to be on the roads. And complicating the situation is the fact that manufacturer is in bankruptcy proceedings in the United States.

The City’s 2024 budget now includes 20 diesel busses.

LOL, if a doofus like me can figure out you need to test things like this out before you go all in, then I can't imagine the mentality of the DERP's that did this.

I’ve always been curious if a diesels lifespan outweighs its emissions too.

Hear me out, how much greenhouse gas is emitted for all the raw materials and manufacturing of vehicles that don’t live as long?

That said, not all vehicles can be diesel, but the whole point is having a big energy mix. Some things have better uses for others. And if you’re in a mild climate in the middle of nowhere, diesel is king.

I have heard a Diesel with less than 100K isn't broken in yet. I never had the need for a truck with that much power, but I'd love to need one. My little 150 gets it done now.

EVs are pretty much instant delivery power, but there’s something satisfying about taking note of the weather and letting it warm up before you really start to put on a load. Or knowing once it’s warmed up where the sweet spots are in which gears. It makes driving more engaging IMO. You take a while to learn the vehicle and then it’s an extension.

I’ve wondered the same.

Then add this to the equation…

Fuel efficiency: Diesel engines are typically much more fuel-efficient than gas engines, even those with very high compression ratios. Diesel fuel is also more energy-dense than gasoline, meaning more energy per gallon. As a result, it's not uncommon for a diesel-powered car to get 50 mpg or higher.

I drove a 150 for many years. It was great!

Owning any truck ensures that you have lots of friends, especially on moving day

I did a road trip from Edmonton to Kelowna this summer. 600 mountain miles on three quarters of a tank.

I stopped in Mount Robson Park to walk the dog. There are EV recharging stations there.

After about an hour of dog walking the same cars were parked at the stations that were there when I started my hike. The owners were cleaning out their cars or taking a nap while waiting for a charge. Seems a bit inconvenient.

Here is to hoping we get a governor with at least half a brain, next go'round, and that they throw this out the window.

With the timeframe so far off, couldn't a reasonable governor that follows her just overturn Twitmer's exec order? "Yeah, we aren't doing that."

I'm not sure what the checks and balances are on exec orders.

Here in Detroit, a few neighborhoods are the 1st to provide neighborhood charging stations.

Just sayin'...I love the "D"... But hangin n waiting for your charge 24-7....can we say "CARJACK"?

The whole thing is charge ability and convenience...but so far, it is the opposite...and there will be major issues....

I love the term "zero emissions "

The emissions are at the coal fired powerplant instead of the tailpipe.

So get rid of coal fired power plants.

I'm still waiting on that breakthrough in fairy dust power generation... It's slightly ahead of solar and just ahead of wind... 😂

I didn't even think of waiting for your car to charge in somewhere like Detroit. I mean, it's a lovely place, but it's almost as much as Chicago with regard to being MAGA country. At least that's what my friend Jussie told me.

I assure you. Detroit...is far from "MAGA" country. This is auto and Union country here...whatever the party.

Now south of West Road n North of 21 mile Rd...the "Trumper-Rednecks-Plowboys" are everywhere..

You know, big pickups, little penises...

Yea, that was kind of "the joke". When Jussie made the claim the two white rednecks at two in the morning, in negative 20 degree temps, in downtown Chicago beat him up and called him "that Empire N*gger" and said "This is MAGA country", it became just a little problematic in the belief department.

www.foxnews.com...

Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive directive Tuesday forcing the state government's entire fleet of vehicles, both light-duty and heavy-duty, to transition to zero-emission.

Under Whitmer's actions, Michigan's state agencies must convert all state-owned light-duty vehicles to zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) by 2033 and all medium and heavy-duty vehicles by 2040. The governor said the move — which earned endorsements from clean energy groups, the United Auto Workers (UAW) union and Detroit Regional Chamber — would reduce pollution and lead to lower costs in the state.

California, where I live, has one of the most aggressive plans in the US to replace the ICE vehicle fleet and it does not envision prohibiting the sale of new ICE vehicles until 2035. Even then, there will still be a lot of legacy ICE vehicles on the road.

I do have an electric car and it works great in the Sierras and the Siskiyou Mountains in the winter.

Thank-you. I'm always looking for feedback from people who have owned and driven electric vehicles for awhile.
