all I can say is elections have consequences. Let's hope the voters in MI remember all this come election time.
I hate to see such a beautiful state ruined by incompetence, but I don't think the damage done is irreparable.

if they offered free battery replacement once the existing one's wear out, I'd jump on one. But to think in 6-7 years you will have to pony up 20 grand for batteries, I just can't absorb that cost.

that might be a winner. As long as you don't have to drive more than 2.5 hours at a time and have a place to charge where you work, you could do rather well. They are plenty fast and have lots of good qualities. As long as you don't worry about the ecological impact of the batteries that are replaced, you can call it a win.

I love the term "zero emissions "

The emissions are at the coal fired powerplant instead of the tailpipe.

Nope.

Mine's from the solar power we had installed on our roof. Many people who have EV's also have solar power... and it's ideal for local government, too. Solar's relatively easy to install and the vehicles charge overnight - some government agencies do this kind of thing (solar goes to batteries when the sun isn't shining, and charges come from that battery.)

This would also reduce the cost of government operations, by the way. Fuel can be quite a large factor in budgets.

Sorry, meant MG4. Range is @ 270miles so that's fine. I work from home and can get a free home charge point as part of the deal.

They charge from any electrical outlet, you know. Ours hybrid charges from the same plugs we use for the lawnmower. So with solar power (the city actually buys our excess electricity), we drive around the city for about 2 cents/gallon.

Not to mention that you're driving around inside of what amounts to a microwave on wheels

Short-term car EMF radiation while driving has been found to contribute to headaches, dry eyes and blurred vision, neck stiffness, and irritability, whereas long-term car EMF radiation is said to lead to an increased risk of various organ cancers, especially for owners of electric cars because of the high level of EMFs from underneath their seats.

If I were you I'd be more worried about harmful particulate emissions from diesel engines.

Make sure you look into how long the batteries last, and how much it costs to replace them. A co worker had a hybrid, with the two large batteries under the seats I believe. One needed to be replaced. It was over 5 grand.
She sold the car.

My daily driver is a manual diesel VW. It’s hard to find newer manuals here, so I’ll keep it till it dies (should be a while). Something about rowing gears is just so satisfying, and its range is insane. I’ve gotten 800 miles on a single tank before.

I’m sure I’ll get an EV one day when charging and range is figured out, but I’ll keep the diesel too.

EV Battery Factory Will Require So Much Energy It Needs A Coal Plant To Power It - LINK

All of that mining and factory processing produces a lot more carbon dioxide emissions than a gas-powered car, so EVs have to be driven around 50,000 to 60,000 miles before there’s a net reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

So, as more factories are built in the U.S. to supply EV manufacturers, there will be higher demands on the grid for power.

Which VW?

I used to have a 71 - I think, Veedub Bug. Was v fond of her. Flat four air cooled. Lowered Cal Look.

Extractor exhaust and multi carbs.

Quite rapid! But lethal to drive.

Mate had one with a Porsche 911 fitted.

Had to put bags of sand under the front boot, to keep the front wheels on the road.

UAW supports purchasing entire fleets of new cars? Weird. Wouldn't be surprised if Whitmers husband gets a solid gold strap on for Xmas this year.

It’s a 2015 Jetta with a 2L turbo diesel.

I bought it after dieselgate, and the powertrain is under full warranty until 2026. Already had a couple of things done for free and even got a brand new loaner during the process.

One of the fastest cars I had was a Volvo S60 turbo. Faster than my Ford Cougar V6. Both eventually died, sadly. Loved both.
