Israel to Flood Hamas Tunnels with Seawater

Egypt flooded their tunnels back in 2015.

The Egyptian military on Friday morning began pumping sea water into the underground cross-border tunnels dug between its Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza Strip in what appears to be a renewed campaign to stamp out terror activity along the border.

Ya gotta love Egypt’s train of thought though😂

Officials announced last month that the area would be flooded and would eventually be converted into 18 fish farms along the 14-kilometer border with Gaza, making the digging of new underground tunnels impossible.

I recall watching the telly a few years back, 60 Minutes, or some similar program, which explained that much of the construction material slated for civilian use was diverted for terrorist purposes.

They mentioned concrete, plumbing materials, metal roofing, and insulation.

Typical Hamas, and typical “civilians” giving it a pass.

I don't know that there is all that much left to destroy. That they are allowed access to in Gaza that is. The Israeli settlers in the West Bank have been permitted to dig new wells to access depleted acqivers but Palestinians were prevented from doing so.

Its pretty much irrelevant who built the tunnels, the important thing is why and in what way were Hamas using the tunnels?

I think its well established Hamas were using them for terrorist activities so I personally think its fair Israel take whatever steps they deem necessary to negate their future use for the same purposes.

Or have you got another suggestion?

I suppose, assuming that they are certain hostages aren't being held down there it is relatively humane as a measure. Announcing it seems somewhat counter intuitive as it gives opportunity to move the hostages into the tunnels.

Does anyone really believe the remaining hostages are still alive or in any sort of fit and healthy condition?

It seems at some point in the near future Israel is going to be in a position to determine if there are hostages in the tunnels.
Once they've done that then I think its perfectly reasonable for them to render them unfit for future use in any way they see fit.

Then they have to make sure that Hamas and/or other like minded terrorist groups are not in a position to build any more tunnels.

I didn't say that, you're inferring what you want to infer.

When Israel are in a position to determine if the hostages are in the tunnels or not I would expect them to be able to extricate any there prior to doing whatever they deem necessary.

But you knew that.

It was not clear whether Israel would consider using the pumps before all the Israeli hostages captured by Hamas terrorists on October 7 as any move to flood the tunnels would prove fatal for the captives.

It reads to me that by setting up the appearance of the tunnels about to be flooded, which, according to your linked article, will take weeks to do, the IDF are hoping to 'flush' Hamas and any captives out without spilling a drop of the Med. Just my view.

You are putting a lot of effort into your point here. I said "Israel to Flood" as in future tense, I didn't "are flooding " and I didn't give a date, but it seems they have started.
