The point I was making that even if a national amendment were passed, the would still be a large number of Republicans arguing for its repeal just so they could enact a national ban.

Ohio just showed that it's exactly what will happen. These politicians don't care about the Constitution or the will of the people. And that's ultimately going cost the GOP.

Eediots.

It’s a personal choice that has no business being politically decided in the first place.

That's a fine political opinion you have there; I support your right to hold it in our society that is built on ideals of democracy and mutual respect for opinions.

Yup, called democracy.

Do you want to replace that with something else; perhaps totalitarian rule?

America is a Republic, not a direct democracy.
It’s on purpose too.
If you’re curious as to why you can look it up.
You’re welcome!

It’s no secret and certainly nothing to stay quiet about.

And yet, this was a totally legal, unrigged democratic state election, that used a proper law enacted to ensure voters the right to amend their own state constitution, which they did.

You disagree with the voters, so now you want to change the rules and take away citizens' rights.

Explain to me how attempting to overturn an amendment that was voted on by the majority of voters is democratic?

I had to make that choice. My feelings are unimportant.

But I would have been pissed as Hell if I had not had that personal right of choice.

It flat out is no one else’s business.

Don’t want to turn this into an abortion debate.

YAY! Ohio.

BOO! Politicians trying to undo a legal vote of the people.

It isn't. Neither is simply 'changing' a state amendment with no vote. Saw a lot of that pre-2020 election.

Yum ... if there is a mechanism by which to over turn an amendment, than by its very existence it would suggest that amendments are not absolute and can be changed through the democratic process.

This is basic stuff and doesn't change because you feel passionately about a subject.

And how about what Ohio Republicans are doing where they're ignoring the amendment and will push their abortion ban bills through anyway. Is that democratic?

If the system allows it then yes.

The system also will allow challenges to the new bills.

This is true of any constelltutional stipulation or amendment and laws past by legislators and enforced by executives.

It is the our democratic system; and again it doesn't change because you feel passionately about a subject.

Imagine the second amendment of the US constitution and all the bills and challenges to bills and new bills and new challenges that poo up year after year.

Its how our democratic system works.

And to be avoid disinformation your question should have been:

How about what nearly half of the Ohio Republicans are doing where they're ignoring the amendment and will push their abortion ban bills through anyway. Is that democratic?

The biggest threat to the GOP and our country is the evangelicals that want he US to be a theocracy.

Mike Johnson is a theocrat and him as Speaker of the House is a concern as he does not believe in the separation of church and state.

Having a Republican theocrat as SotH very well may steer people away from voting Republican.

Dominionism Rising
A Theocratic Movement Hiding in Plain Sight

Dominionism is the theocratic idea that regardless of theological camp, means, or timetable, God has called conservative Christians to exercise dominion over society by taking control of political and cultural institutions.

Go God Go!

"Well, it appears the consensus isn't evangelical Christian anymore, so lets just do away with democracy because this secular thing isn't working for me."

Just like legal weed, 1 state is 2012, 24 states in 2023. I think Ohio will become the model..

The great awakening seems to be going the wrong way though.

I absolutely disagree with voters.
I never said nor inferred that I want to change the rules.
I never said nor inferred that I want to take away anybody’s rights.
It’s the left that wants to keep changing the rules and trying to take rights away everytime they get the power.

It’ll work itself out through the system just as roe did.

Of course you did. You did when you affirmed your distaste for democracy, expressed because of your disapproval of the outcome of a perfectly legal election.

Once again, my ultimate point in all of this is that by pursuing measures that the majority of the population has already expressed they don't support, the GOP are only hurting themselves.

Do you disagree with that sentiment?

I affirmed my pleasure for America being a republic and not a mob ruled direct democracy.

I’ll be happy to fact slap you again if you continue to twist my words. Begone troll.

There’s been enough election shenanigans lately that each time they hold one now there’s already seeds of fraud built in.
