A corrupt police employee, who illegally accessed sensitive information to tip off a criminal friend about a secret investigation into serious crime, has been jailed.

Natalie Mottram, from Warrington in Cheshire, was working as an intelligence analyst when she was caught in an undercover sting operation to trap whoever was leaking secrets to criminals.

Mottram, whose job involved making threat assessments of organised crime gangs, told Jonathan Kay, 39, about the covert EncroChat operation, and that officers had intelligence on him.

On 24 April 2020, a friend of Kay, who cannot be named for legal reasons, messaged another EncroChat user to say he had learned that day about law enforcement infiltrating the platform

A story featuring Police corruption in the UK. Normally I won't even bother to create a thread about it, but recently there have been some very wild claims regarding the UK Police when it was argued they're unbiased, independent, trustworthy, reliable and credible, in an attempt to justify the estimates of the number of anti-war protestors in a recent London demonstration given by the UK Police.

The claim the UK Police are unbiased and independent is just an assertion having no basis in reality. Someone else said it's the default position before asking us to disprove the dogma...

A female cop, who was friends with a criminal who was probably part of another group/gang, worked as an intelligent analyst and provided information that officers had intelligence on him.

Imagine what else could be happening that we never get to know and the amount of corruption not only in the UK Police but in the entire State and Government.

She wasn't a police officer or member of the police force - she was a civillian/secretary on secondment.

If you read the story you'll see how she was caught by police in an anti-corruption sting and this has no relevance to UK police or the MET Police figures for protests which have to be accurate for budgets and health ans safety r egulations/UK constitution of facillitating peaceful protest.

Dude/Dudette, she was NOT a warrant carrying police constable, she was civilian auxiliary staff, massive difference, including no arrest powers (or the same limited 'power' I have as any civilian to detain a criminal) ..and less background/personality checks than a constable is required to meet.

The police actively investigated her in a 'sting' operation, she was caught, and you try to frame it as an example of systemic corruption...when in fact, it's an example of good housekeeping by the local police authority.
