People who stand at their cubicles are weird.

As a former flight-line technician who's had to stand for most of his day watching pilots break my aircraft, i find it particularly odd that engineers choose to stand at their desks all day. I now work as a quality inspector at one of the major air craft manufacturers in an office job and there's dozens of these geeks standing about at their desks. How is standing around beneficial?

Also, i thought i was kind of a geek myself because i used to play WH40K and WoW, but wholly crap, the new breed of geek is a whole new level.

I dunno, i just wanted to bitch about something that isnt about the mods vanishing or Israel.

Unless you were fixing fighters, you had opportunities for nappy time in a crew bunk or such. If you weren't lucky enough to work on 130's, then I feel bad for you. But the current thing of folks standing up at their cubicles (I'd rather eat a bullet than work in a fuggin cubicle) has to do with their smart watches telling them to stand up every so often. If you don't obey the watch, you never know what horrible things could happen.

EA-6B Prowlers, so kind of fighters. Then V-22 Ospreys, KC-10s and the B-52. I took the QA job cause i was tired of fixing the B-52 and wanted a different change of pace. The office women are prettier than the flight line ones too.

ARG! QA! The reason I had to lug that stupid TO around with me to swap a box with 4 camlocks and a cannon plug.

flightline chicks are rugged. Used to work with one who slept with her eye open. Just one of them. Freaky.

at my office I'm fortunate to have a standing desk that you can adjust to sit or stand. I split pretty much 50/50
Win for ergonomics I guess

I went to visit my kid at Ellsworth a few weeks ago, and they have a park with static displays out front. I always thought the B-52 would be bigger. Kind of like Mt. Rushmore.

Did they give you extra food at the chow hall if you bust someone? What was the minimums for write ups in a month?

To be fair, i wasnt a flight line QA, i left the line for a QA spot in engineering. I too hated maintenance QA. My main job now is to keep engineers from burning the building down and electrocuting themselves.

The last 5 years or so that I was in the military I was mostly working at a desk.

After hazing myself during morning work outs and running, sitting at a desk usually put me to sleep.

Sitting at a desk made my back sore too, standing stopped that.

I'm pretty sure it increases productivity. If I ran an office, I'd probably take all the chairs from the desks.

The B-52H model, is the biggest thing I've ever worked on, wingspan wise. the KC-10 was huge inside though.

You have your work cut out for you then. Be sure to give them crayons, instead of matches. That way you get a nice picture rather than the need for an extinguisher.

When in basic, a TI I had said something that has perplexed me since. He said he worked on a plane that had tires taller than us. To date, I've payed attention to that aspect of planes, and the C-130 seems to have the biggest tires of all, and they are chest high. So he was bullsh!tting, or his airframe (prior to 1990) is still hidden away.

Fellas,

Sitting kills.

You are going to dig your heels in and cry about how "what's a chair for, anyhow?", and other dumb stubborn rhetoric...

But sitting kills.

What makes you think that spending most of your day with your body bent at 2 90 degree angles with concentrated pressure on the back of your legs is good for you?

You're weird. And now I'll stand by for your even weirder responses.

As a test, when you went TDY, where was the first stop any flight line crew would make?
