Some people here will take the demise of ATS with ease others will not but it does go to show the multitudes online looking for somewhere to belong because the real offline world can be isolating and just as controlled with a major lack of mental health care. So where do people go? Online with safeguards in place can be a good thing.

But we should always be aware that those safeguards are illusionary, at best; Nature tends to punish the foolhardy with being eaten.


Those safeguards depend "on the kindness of strangers" to exist. Fortunately, most folks can be kind, when it suits them...or at least, doesn't "costs them.


At the worst of times, Pray for Humanity, but be prepared for "human nature".

Something else I noticed on the Whois page: Last update of WHOIS database: 2023-10-20T20:47:17Z

Someone updated it October 20 at 8:47 PM GMT. This would have been right around the time that things went sideways.

Well here, at least, we are given many warnings before getting the boot.

Had to make a new account to post, site doesn't recognize my email, but i could create a new account with the same email, so it seems they deleted it.

As this continued into the 2nd and 3rd day, my hopes this was all temporary and that things would be reset back to the way it was faded. I figured any posts made with the new account would be wiped out in a reset and other than going after one particular member with gusto for obviously behaving in a fraudulent manner and potentially being involved in the incursion, I tried to remain faithful to the T&Cs.

At this point however, I don’t believe it is ever going back and indeed, think the whole site will vanish in a 404 or permanent connection timed out message from Cloudflare at any moment.

I see some here trying to carry on as normal hoping that if they maintain the status quo, everything will be all right as long as they can continue life as normal and avoid the trolls but I would encourage folks to not get too invested in the near or long term survival of this site and emotionally prepare themselves for its inevitable demise and to make alternate connections in advance.

I would feel differently with a verified statement from the owners/management but it does not look like that is going to happen so any confidence or trust I may have once had in this site has been lost.

This saddens me as I am sure it does others.

Dont care what's going on behind the scenes but it sure is kinda fun watching it play out.

I wouldn't be shocked if it was some big psychology experiment.

WHOIS updates could simply mean that transfer of the domain occurred or registrar info was updated. If it was malicious, the worst they could do from that aspect is redirect and then the entire site would be offline.

Keeping that popcorn a poppin tho

Some say they know ''this'' and some say know''that''. What I think I know is this.

There is a new account that has labeled itself MrsDarko.
This account has links to posts made prior to this kerfuffle which from my observations no other new accounts have.
This account claims to be the wife of the owner
This account has made replies on various threads saying that the owners are working on solutions
This account has also dabbled in mundane ''getcha backs'' with several of the foul mouthed accounts.

So, as this question seems to have arisen to you as it has to me, why has this account, if it is credible, not created any thread of announcement but only posted as replies that are so easily lost in the shuffle.

Well, it's not exactly an allegory of the cave revelation but it is somewhat reminiscent of "Lord Of The Flies".

Humans require rules to interact with one another in groups, else anarchy prevails, and survival of the fittest tends to become the colour of the day.

Here at ATS the mods and staff implement and uphold those rules.

If it's lessons your are after look at what happens when they take away the warning labels and let the lunatics run free.

As far as i can establish the result is neither pretty nor clever.
