RE the top image.

That is very weird as I was NOT online in the evening, and when I got here could not post.

I'm not sure that people did get "logged out". Isn't it the case, rather, that IF they had logged out themselves they were unable to get back in?

I normally remain logged in permanently. This depends on a cookie, apparently, so when that expires I have to log in again, but otherwise I don't go near the log-in page. That is why my old account remains logged in at this moment, but I can't do anything with it except read. I am in the same position as the two versions of Don'tTreadOnMe, but there's no significance in that.

I don't know what it means. Perhaps it will be something the owner, or whoever may investigate, may find useful.

We were logged out. I watched as my ticker told me how long the last time I was logged in was. After an hour it went to offline. And I watched it do that for everyone else. But it never said that for the users that were logged in. Perhaps you could manuever around in your PMs and such, but you couldn't open them. I was trying to open a PM that had some info I thought I had time to write down, that is now lost.

Come to think of it the time may be useful?

That's PST.

The question is not straight-forward, because people being displayed as "left ATS " when they were still online has been a quirk of ATS for years. I may even have contributed a thread about it, in "Board Questions". I noticed it first by glancing at my own mini-profile and seeing "Member left ATS five minutes ago", and finding that my presence was acknowledged again once I made a post. Other users were sometimes marked as "not on ATS" when they set out to write a reply to one of my threads, and re-emerged suddenly as "on ATS now" when they posted it.

Perhaps we are confusing ourselves by using the same terminology for what might be at least three different kinds of operational status.
1 Most of the time, I remain logged in to ATS, but I am not online.
2 On this account, I am currently both logged in and online.
3 On my original account, I am still both logged in and online, but I am not recognized as online, and I cannot post.

Sorry, I was misunderstanding you because you described the third situation as "logged out", when perhaps we should call it "de-recognized".

Let me add something, just in case it helps those investigating. I can still get into the account settings on my old account. In a moment, I will see if I can amend them. What I have noticed is that my "location", mood, avatar, and signature have all disappeared from the account settings, even though they remain visible on screen. Does this imply that the attack entailed disabling the account settings as a whole, which had the effect of disabling passwords and also that route of password resetting?

P.S. No, I can't even fill in the mood space. And I've also noticed that my "date display format" is now given as "DISRAELI". All messed up.

I'm pretty sure that it counts how long ago you were on ATS as the last time your current ISP (or VPN) you are logged into pinged their website. That is all it means. If you have a page open and take 5 minutes reading it without any more activity, as far as the website is concerned it last saw you active 5 minutes ago. If you click reply, then you are active again. Then if it takes 20 minutes to write that reply, the last time the website registered activity was 20 minutes ago. Newer web forums process things differently, but this is pretty old software.

I say "logged out" because everyone went to offline status except for the aforementioned. Whether or not you were still logged in with limited access on your account. I am pretty sure the person that is interested in the info I provided would understand all of this.

It will remain that way until you do a logout.

That is a true statement. I was here sometime shortly after the start. Apparently sometime around 9:30pm EST as that appears to be when the last post was created , before the newest members started posting about how quiet it was. Evidently this only affected members that had joined before 2023. I tried posting in reply to them, but could not. After a short time I tried the logout/login routine. It's evident what happened next....

I don't log out, voluntarily, but I'm aware that a cookie will expire on some future date and present me with the log-in page.

Usually, hacks are done with a specific purpose, like killing the whole site and ask for a ransom, or to do something nasty to specific members.
In this case all appear to have been affected in the same way and the only thing that appears to have been affected is members' permissions, so I think this is more likely some kind of database glitch.

Access Control List for ATS.Strange thing is, apparently it did not affect members that had joined this year , as they were posting how quiet things were last night.

That's all set up by the TTL (time to live). I have remained logged in for months at a time.

After an hour it went to offline

That is not necessarily a logged out condition. That is most likely the time you lost full access on your old account.

Understood. What I was specifically referring to what the ATS website itself said as to who was registering "logged in" on the Forums page. I am pretty sure whomever, if anyone this may be useful to, understands this.

I'd say NOT a hack.
I have heard that the Owners were online yesterday.

If the owners got a taste of where ATS has landed recently, I can see the need for the complete reset.

Where has it landed recently?
What do you mean by this cryptic code of yours?
Do you think that ATS should embrace some debunked ideologies so yourself and others could be satisfied? That's an example.

Sorry to ankle bite, but to whose standard? Debunked ideologies like an Israeli missile strike on a hospital or ones about Covid-19, Q-Anon, Soros? What's debunked or not debunked can clash sometimes.

But hey, I don't own this place, this site wants to go "No moderation" (by force or otherwise), it will be interesting to see a bunch of pussy avatars until it's washed away, like a mandala. Never though I'd see an invasion of that style here, but I should have guessed.

First of all I am not involved in the Q-Anon discussion and never was. For some people this is a very serious conversation.

Then I was talking mostly about the range of woke radical left wing nonsense that have no basis in reality. The claims that there multiple genders or that people can magically transform themselves from men to women by taking hormones and remove their external genitalia, the brain genders, or even the other claims that we are in the middle of a climate change catastrophy and we need to eat vegetables and plankton to save the planet...

You said about Covid-19. Most of the misinformation and disinformation has come from official sources and not from members of ATS or other sites. Do you remember the claims the vaccines prevent transmission and infection?! Or achieving herd immunity?! Or the safe and effective dogma?! With the extremely rare side effects?!
And the censorship when anything else was mentioned.

Finally the story with the explosion at the Hospital isn't a conspiracy theory but a real event that everyone seems to want to take advantage. When I made the thread a few days ago I used the links from Reuters and all other major media that were covering the story. They were reporting that it was probably coming from the Israeli side. I also said in my OP that this story needs to be verified.

It hasn't been verified but there was a different account of events given by IDF that disputes the Palestinian side of the story. But still there is nothing conclusive because both sides blame each other.

And to be honest, it would be better if this was a mistake and a failed rocket from the Palestinian side rather than an attack from Israel. Because you don't know what can happen if that scenario turned out to be true given the hate Arabs and Jews have for each other at the moment (I am not talking about everyone)

That time, IIRC, is set for your local time, not a standard GMT or some such.

As I stated on another thread , I believe that the member online time is set to the person viewing's local time and not a standard GMT or such.

Oh, good to see you DTOM.
Have any computer problems lately ?
