aphonza Butler, president of of pro-abortion organization EMILY's List who served as a senior adviser to Kamala Harris' very failed 2020 presidential campaign, and currently a resident of Maryland, was announced as Feinstein's replacement in a Sunday night announcement by Newsom.

Butler will finish Feinstein's term, which runs until 2024, after which she may face off with Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who had been hoping Feinstein would live till the election so he could slide into the Senate.

I'm sure this is in Commifornia's best interests. Yay diversity!

After advising Kamala Harris on her 2020 campaign, Butler left SCRB strategies to become Airbnb's director of public policy and campaigns in North America. Wile working for Harris, she was hired by Uber during an organized labor dispute - when Harris's brother-in-law, Tony West, was Uber's chief legal officer.

She would have to live in California at the time of election. She doesn't have to at this time as she is just taking the position till 2024.

Is this another silly American rule/law. When an elected seat gets vacated because someone dies there should be another election to choose another candidate. Otherwise it stops empty till the next election. The people should choose who they want to represent them not any ruling power. Even if it's for a couple of months.

Oh, it's definitely a loophole that can be taken advantage of because of the specific language used.

He's a Latino, Cuban immigrant. Menendez. Not that it matters, people are corrupt, not races.

And no surprise about New Jersey. It's been at the top of the corrupt states for a long time, after Arizona for the longest time.

Since he won't step down, he should be impeached at the first sign that the DNA evidence on the envelope is real. Being corrupt is one thing, but being so stupid as to keep the original envelope you were bribed with... that's a whole another level of privilege and stupidity.

Logic dictates that the requirements for an appointed replacement should be precisely the same for one running for the office.

There's no logic in politics, because the politicians make up the rules for themselves.

Gavin Newsom, the narcissist that he is, could have named himself for this House position, and then he could have named an interim governor to replace him. Some people feared this might happen.

The only reason it didn't happen is because being a governor of a state, especially California, is better than being a congressperson.

I know nothing of her politics except she probably strongly supports gig workers retaining status as independent contractors. Shes a deep-connected industry person, so that assumption can be made. The hourly guarentees of prop 22 that gig companies all wrote are the preferred model if forced to guarentee pay. All else on her politics is even more assumption.
