It is a store. So customers fill their bottles and pay 50 cents a gallon.

Question:

What is stopping her from bringing her own water or water from home?

Is refilling defined as prohibited by the employer or is it a grey area like say, fast food places where they "allow" employees to drink the stock?

Yes free water is available from water fountain. Water quality is not bad here so I don't know why everyone is so adverse to using the tap. But there are bottles of purified water for sale for 60 cents or the machine that costs 50 cents a gallon.

Nothing is stopping that. There are water fountains and sinks and a fridge in breakroom. Can use those to refill or pay for the bottled water or water machine.

Well then yes, it's stealing technically.

But would you report it? Does it seem petty to report that? Or like you're "sucking the company D" and too uptight?

Me?

No.

However if someone were to ask me about it, I wouldn't lie either.

It is just this one guy. She is a rule follower. She is pretty uptight actually about following rules and doing what she thinks is the right thing.

.50c can accumulate into a mass amount of money quickly .

The local gym I attend charges $1 a bottle , Imagine 2 people were stealing a bottle everyday it adds up.

She has worked there for about 8 years. Needs the job. She has been there 3rd longest out of all coworkers on her shift (about 15) and longer than a lot on other shifts as well.

There's a pecky order in every company. Being the only woman, I'd suspect she's not in the top 50% so blowing the whistle over fifty cents would most likely cost her her job.

Somebody has to be in charge of ordering the water, so I'm guessing tat person at the least knows there's more water going out than money to pay for it coming in.

Unless you're the person in charge of accountability you have two choices; stay in your own lane and let those above you figure out how to run things until you climb the ladder and can make those decisions, or start your own business if you can't deal with corporate corruption.

It sucks, but that's the way the system works now.

Buy two waters and offer him one. Tell him you'll get him a soda if he wants one.

1. It lets the guy know you're aware of what's happening and the water isn't free. (Why, I don't know.)

2. It shows the guy 50 cents isn't much, but there's a principle involved. If he really can't afford it, well, you don't want to see him die of thirst. But if he can afford it, then the gesture should shame him into doing the right thing, assuming he cares what people think about him.

By offering him the water, you should be able to get the desired effect without any confrontation, drama, or hurt feelings. If he thanks you for the water, it only cost you 50 cents. If he says, "I can buy my own water!", just give him the "Why aren't you?" look and walk away. Either way, he'll probably buy his own water in the future.

As a boss, welcome to fill your water up
be more disappointed in the staff if they were running around causing each other drama rather than working together, getting the job done

Not good for company morale, different if it’s stock going missing

She is contracted to do work. Her time for their money, that's the deal. If she's pinching off of her employer then whats to stop them from not paying her superannuation? it's the same thing in principal.

With bathrooms, toilets, lunch rooms, homes...how does anyone "steal" water n why?

If its a bottle of water...no biggie. Also...a "theft" less than $50... is a misdemeanor, but who'd bring charges for a $.50¢ loss?

Is there a reason a "job" has for sale .50 water?

Is free water available?

Is free water available?

....that's not from the only bathroom's rusty sink?

It's wrong of them to steal of course, but tell her to not be a Karen for her own safety unless it involves her somehow.
Some things are too stupid to worry over and the day the person gets caught stealing that water should be laugh worthy.

Exactly, why worry over it. If they get caught, it’s on them.

There are so many people worrying about .50 their coworker drank, while wasting $5 of your employers time..

PS. I don’t steal, but I also don’t tattle. Maybe that’s why I was always liked at work.
