She said too many details so im editing.

Basically if you saw someone stealing 50 cents of water repeatedly from your job, would you report that? Would your fellow coworkers see you as a "beeyotch" if you were the only female working there and reported a man for doing that? How would you react and do you think it is over reacting to report an employee stealing 50 cents of water?

You didn't give us much to go on.

How badly does she need the job?

How long has she been there?

Where does she stand on the seniority list?

Reporting someone for stealing water or $2.50 a week? I think her coworkers will keep their distance so as not to be reported next. Men have to worry about sexual harassment charges as is.

Stealing water? It's hard to think badly of someone stealing a necessity.

What is she doing with the stolen water? Is it for herself or someone else? Is non-contaminated free water available?

Is free water available?

Think we might need more info/details

Is this person taking a bottle of water on the way out? filling his jug with water before leaving? what???

Who hasn't taken that pen or printed something out using works ink and paper? just saying lol

Like where I work they supply us with bottled water while we are working....so most days I take one for the road/drive....is that stealing? or do I need to drink it all before I leave?

How far does the stealing go up the food-chain ?

Is it just this one worker or is it multiple . Does everyone do it ? Does the Boss do it ...tell her to pay attention and make sure stealing "50 cents of water" isn't Par for the Field.

I've had Jobs where everyone is following the rules to the letter with Zero deviation and I've had Jobs where the Job could not be done with out Breaking the rules. So like I said tell her to pay attention to everyone not just the one.

I personally would ignore it. It's .50 cents. Where I live people everywhere regularly steal from me. At every place I go to buy, the gas station, the grocery store, the corner store, they always skim a peso extra. It's just the way of life down here. I've seen Americans come down here not used to it get real livid and mad, my wife still does, I just shrug my shoulders and ignore it. I'm not going to have a coronary over 1 peso. I also wouldn't report if they were smoking where they weren't supposed to or even if I saw them doing drugs. None of my business. If it was something worth more value then I could see the obligation to report it. And the bottom line is the saying goes, "faithful in little faithful in much, unfaithful in little, unfaithful in much." The fact her conscience allows her to steal at all, even 1 cent worth of something says volumes. She shouldn't be trusted. I definitely wouldn't trust her with anything.

As defined, it's theft.

Up to the individual to define if it's worth the thing to report it.
I've been tempted to pocket money before. I had better folk than me tell me the better option

It depends on how popular she and the one stealing it is, as well as how high up the chain she reports it too.

Put simply, she should just worry about her self and look the other way… truth be told.

Heck NO.

Don’t report anyone.
Do your job, let someone else tattle tale.

Never mess with a persons livelihood… That has been a good mantra for me in my life.
Ps. If it really bothers you don’t worry, someone else will tattle, or they will be caught.

Also, if you want to get philosophical….a person is trading in hours of their life to an employer, no amount of money is worth that if you really think about it.

She has worked there for about 8 years. Needs the job. She has been there 3rd longest out of all coworkers on her shift (about 15) and longer than a lot on other shifts as well.

It is a store. So customers fill their bottles and pay 50 cents a gallon.

Well there are water fountains and sinks. They sell bottled water for 60 cents or customers use the machine to fill bottles for 50 cents a gallon.

It is just this one guy. She is a rule follower. She is pretty uptight actually about following rules and doing what she thinks is the right thing.
