Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., froze for more than 30 seconds while answering reporters' questions in Covington, Kentucky, on Wednesday.

"What are your thoughts on running for re-election?" a reporter asked McConnell.

"What're my thoughts about what?" the GOP leader asked.

"What are your thoughts on running for re-election in 2026?" the reporter repeated.

McConnell stared blankly for 10 seconds before an aide appeared next to him and asked, "Did you hear the question, senator? Running for re-election in 2026?"

Apparently he was contemplating term limits. But seriously, what is the drive? Not quite enough money? Not quite enough power? Why do these people insist on remaining long after their health and age permits?

It's time for a serious talk about term limits, and yes, I am fully aware that those who need it, are those who vote on it. We still need to bring it up.

We tied at 0326pm...I asked the other thread to be closed...

It's long past time to ditch Mitch. The thing is, this has happened twice recently in public...how many times is it happening when there are no cameras?

I am pleased with how my threads usually go. The DERP's usually don't have much to say and I mainly use them to look back when I need some quick facts. Thanks for the advice.

It's way past time for that discussion.
Seriously.
Mitch McConnell and Diane Feinstein are poster children for why there should be term limits.

He needs to go. This is not right. He is one of the most powerful politicians in our country. I feel as bad for him as I do Biden. I hate their policies but it is elder abuse at this point.

Some decisive action was needed there. That young woman by his side could have said something like, ''Hey Joe, grab the old bastards wheelchair so we can wheel him outta here this this one blows over''.

Same goes for Feinstein. ''Hey Di, here's some scotch tape to tape your eyelids open''.

In know, I know, that would have been a sign of disrespect, but isn't it a sigh of disrespect to the American people to not say or do something instead of continuing with the ''business as usual'' like that woman did?

It's the underlings who keep pumping them up. ''Oh, you are so important to the cause, to the balance of power''. Bull.

I’ve been a strong proponent of 20 year max in federal government… so if you’ve done three terms in senate you can do two as a representative and you’re out… want to do two terms as President… we’ll then you better only have 12 years under your belt or you’re limited to one term or none…

This gravy train of a two sided coin needs to end…

Its not them that is making the decision. They are just a warm body to present to the people.

Its the people that invested the time and money behind the scene that controls when they get to retire . They have invested years and millions into owning these warm bodies and replacing them is not a trivial quick task.

If you ever watched the Lawrence Lessig interviews with Jack Abramoff he tells you way they don't want term limits. It takes lots of money and time to get full control of a congressman.

Interesting interview I recommend it , if you havent watched it. He even goes into how he owns a candidate without even giving them a dollar. Its pretty genius and all mental chess game .

two terms period. not eligible after age 70.all elected offices from county, state, federal.
annual evaluation by 50 U.S. citizens (like jury duty) but on job performance of all bureaucrats, agency heads, and appoints of any office with strict grading/rules/ ratings to continue on in positions.

any and all federal bills/acts should be voted on by people of the state then representatives and senators cast votes according to the outcome/ will of the state their from.

all judges should be voted for, count, state, federal, and SCOTUS

i got more, but they maybe a little to radical.

oh and none of this "we got to pass the bill to see what's in it", legalese, or massive 2702 pages bills, with pork hidden all through it. plain simple common sense wording for what the bill is about. no adding $10,000,000 to study the mating habits of cocka roaches to some university.

Furthermore, why do people who want positive change in the country continue to elect old politicians that, for the most part, are stuck in their ways and thinking. Unless they suddenly need to change their "opinion" for voters.

I have nothing against the elderly, but people like Biden, Trump, Mitch, Nancy, ect.. should be in positions of senior advisors. Not the ones making decisions and leading the country.

No wonder barely anything gets done and both sides are just in never-ending grudge matches for political power. We need more fresh energy and passionate people in congress willing to put in the work for positive change. Preferrably less far-left/far-right people like AOC or Majorie Taylor Green.

I just don't understand voters. They don't like massive corprations getting tax breaks and inflation but vote in politicians are actively make money off the stock market with inside knowledge (Nancy Pelosi for example). And have done so for years.

If you want change ; elect NEW people. Not the same ol' farts that have their hands tied with corporate interest.

Possibly this…

An absence seizure causes a short period of “blanking out” or staring into space. Like other kinds of seizures, they are caused by brief abnormal electrical activity in a person’s brain.

While i cant help but want term limits like 20 years ago, there is a part of me that feels sympathy for mitch, i cant imagine what its like to get old and know that the end is coming, this must be scary for him and his family.

This time when froze there seems to be more evidence of some type seizure as he is clearly shaking at the podium, struggling perhaps to maintain himself in front of a crowd.

Also on the term limits front, there are several bills currently dying in the senate and the house, all proposed by younger congressmen. There hasn't been any movement on them from these committees, we the people need to start holding people accountable.

sorry...shameless plug incoming

Commercial airline pilots have a mandatory retirement age of 65 (with some lobby ongoing for this to be modified to 67).

Here, we have "pilots" of a craft (i.e the entire country) which has 332 MILLION passengers onboard!

"Death" should not be the mandatory retirement age for government officials.

Just a thought.
.
.
.
Oh, and there should be developed a mutually agreeable mental faculties test which is administered prior to any re-election to any office or House, Senate or SCOTUS position. Doesn't have to be a long test, but it needs to be timed.
