To all of those with the negative comments about our youth, how about they don’t want to die for a country that does not take care of their veterans. How about we start there ! Them going to war to fight and die for politicians who are only in it for themselves. And how about these new politicians who want to raise the voting age to 25 to get educated in civics first before voting , yet they don’t mind sending our sons and daughters to some god forsaken land to die for no good god damn reason. Shall I go on you self righteous arm chair quarterbacks. Who most likely are the baby boomer generation. You all know where you can go. 😡😡😡😡😡a reply to: greendust

Gen Z parents ages would most likely be Gen X and maybe the very younger baby boomers, really closer to the Gen X tipping point.

Perhaps with the policy of having the military pay for gender reassignment surgery now there will be an influx of new recruits soon.

"The percentage of Americans of service age who are eligible to serve in the armed forces is the lowest it’s ever been. It dropped from 29 percent in recent years to 23 percent last year. Fewer young Americans meet the military basic fitness standards, and more young Americans have used drugs. While marijuana is legal in twenty-one states plus the District of Columbia, its use is still disqualifying when it comes to joining the military."

1) They have no Pride in the United States .

2) They are Lazy .

3) They are scared to be yelled at and disciplined and be subject to consequences if they don't listen.

4) and to be honest an Active War helps recruiting like crazy.

See my previous reply.

When was the last time the military actually fought for America, and it's people?

They fight to make rich politicians richer.

Some of the hardest workers I supervise are Gen-Z kids. They just don't want to fight for bullsh1t.

Perhaps they have seen how crappy the government has treated all the veterans of all of our wars. It's better than what occurred with Vietnam vets but it's all relative.

The US government destroyed lots of potential productive and content lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, can somebody remind us what exactly were these for?

Well if he’s a straight white male he would be crazy to join.
Unless he’s wanting to be overlooked and commanded by low quality leadership.

I’m in my mid thirties.

Nothing would have interested me more than a high energy, team based, high demand job with badass gear rolling with the boys when I was young.

But I didn’t agree with how the military was used.

Patriotism doesn’t mean you’ll enlist no matter the current environment. Sadly, that environment was bad when I was young.

I suspect the same is true with the younger generation. I think this is more ideologically motivated than a drive thing.

Sure, there are struggles with laziness and people who seek pleasure over the rewards of hard work… but those struggles have always existed in young people. That said, we can look at any generation and say they brought those bad habits into older age. It’s human nature, and I’m willing to bet the densities in high and low motivation is semi comparable through the generations.

As long as you can pass a urine test, you can join the military if there is nothing else wrong with you. If you are way overweight, you can't pass either.

The same people spouting, HERPADERPA DON'T WANNA WORK DERPA NO PATRIOTISM!!1!

Are the same people who say, NEVER LISTEN TO THE GOVERNMENT! 1!!

Why would ANYONE want to devote their life to the US government in this day and age?

Thank you for taking the time to verify and confirm the 3 items in my post .

You're not wrong , Some Gen-Z kids have an inner drive I never had at their age , Ambitions and Aspirations perhaps I should have had.

All Wars are poor people dying and Rich people moving Chess pieces , As it always was. That being said , War is a Headspace very few get to experience and it is an opportunity for average people to to extraordinary things .

The Military did Great things for me and made me the Man I am today , But I'm not saying it works for everyone.

You have to be pretty foolish to join the military after 20 years of endless wars purely for the benefit of banks & corporations.

The real entitled ones are the rich old people complaining the young don't want to die so they can sell a growth report to their rich, old shareholders.

If you are raised or taught in school that the US is the root of all evil in the world and only the US everyone else is a victim... why would you join?

Or desperate, I served with more than a few people where the military was their only chance to escape the pest hole they grew up in or the self destructive spiral of their families.

Because that generation devours social media and self worship on top of materialistic idolization. By design the majority of that generation is entitled and useless. Tictok is their lord and master.

>Patriotism - Love of and devotion to one's country

It is more patriotic today to not serve in the military. It would be more patriotic to dodge a military draft.

When was the last time our military fought for our country?

There is only one war that a patriotic American should be willing to kill and die in, and it is not in another country.

When you know the history of who funds ALL of our wars (both sides I might add) and how so many of them were started over out right lies it's hard to blame the younger generation. As a matter of fact as a veteran I do my best to educate them on why there is no honor in fighting for a corrupt money machine! Our enemy isn't abroad, it's in our own back yard.

So true has a Vietnam era veteran or served overseas in Southeast Asia I thought it was a joke after I woke up after the age of 23.

In a couple of weeks I will be attending my nephew's USMC boot camp graduation. He grew up in the mountains. Pretty tough kid. I'm very proud of him and what he is doing.
According to him, the other men and women in his company are "Tough as hell!"
Assuming his company is representative, I'd say the Marine Corp at least is getting some pretty good material to work with.
