Got a single shred of verifiable evidence that we forced our bases on western europe?

You could make an argument for western germany, but the even then at any point they could have said get out.

On topic, not a whole lot of example of military taking over that worked out well for the regular people of any nation.

I get it that the current trend is only the west is evil, but They need to show they are better before they deserve a nugget of well maybe they are ok.

It’s beyond me that people can’t find the irony in statements like that. Acting as if the west is the most oppressive force on earth while the east has leaders who won’t leave power until they die.

What’s more ironic to me is the Venn diagram where the far left and far right only overlap with praise for China and the nostalgia of a former imperialist Russia.

I’ll admit the many forms of American Exceptionalism I’ve seen pushed in my life come off as disingenuous and off putting. It stifles justified criticisms and discussions on how we need to improve.

But to act as if the west is the epitome of oppression or authoritarianism in this world discounts what most people on earth have to live through.

I can trade in almost any kind of asset on this planet, close to instantaneously. I can buy stocks from countries considered adversaries, I can even do futures, leveraged plays, foreign currency, real estate here and abroad, the list goes on. I can do all that as a private citizen with little to know licensing.

And contrary to what many would have us believe, we can say incredibly provocative things, this isn’t unique to the west but we all know there are parts of the world that can’t do this.

I’m all for being honest about what we need to improve in our homes. But it’s far past disingenuous to act as if Chins and Russia are salvation for humanity and the oppression of the west.
