Wagner did a really good job destabilizing this country and arming and training up the coup.
If the neighboring countries do indeed go in forcefully, in order to reestablish peace, that will pit their united military forces directly against Wagner and their local cohorts.
Russia's end goal here is to destabilize as many parts of the world as possible, in hopes of gaining an advantage in their own war. This will continue elsewhere.
The military targeting of civilian infrastructure, especially of water supplies, is a war crime under the Geneva Conventions, writes Nafeez Ahmed. Yet this is precisely what NATO did in Libya, while blaming the damage on Gaddafi himself. Since then, the country's water infrastructure - and the suffering of its people - has only deteriorated further.

So now France perhaps takes action as they did in Lybia, which utterly destroyed it (& which created many terrorists) that country with millions of refugees coming to Europe as a result as well, I guess they want that country destroyed also with again many millions of refugees in the end. Must be worth it... Nato even bombed those water pipe lines in Lybia! Western power really cares about people!

Why would France do anything here or get involved at all?
Niger has been independent since 1960.

Let’s be honest. Most of these coups end up pillaging the land as much or more than colonial influence.
Also, you don’t have much validity in the international community unless you have relations with a power. They’ll cozy up to someone, whether it be Russia or China. That uranium is leaving one way or another. Question is will it be a better price, and will it make its way to rebuilding the country.
That’s speculation on my part. And I can’t say with certainty that the coup doesn’t turn things around. Hell, if China or Russia did fill the void there, it would be in their best interest to make the west look bad and do better, so I wouldn’t even discount that possibility.
Time will tell.

Of course, Wagner Group and Russia has no designs on those resources?
