In my mind, discussion of the Illuminati is THE ORIGINAL conspiracy theory. I heard about it now and then in my youth, when NOBODY ever heard about them. From an old cajun biker in Albuquerque in a bar. He was talking about a new world order being created lead by the Illuminati, and the families and the elite, all the UFOs and stuff were a part of that. This guy was X-files long before there was a show on TV.

He also talked about 'Golden Apple' being the organization fighting the Illuminati. Mind you, this was before Apple computers were ever thought of. Apple Records did exist tho', and this biker said that right there was evidence he was right, and the Beatles were part of the resistance, and they were letting everyone know they were... this was BEFORE John Lennon was assassinated, by a few years.

Anywhoo.... Golden Apple vs the Illuminati was like U.N.C.L.E vs Thrush.

Almost never did I hear anyone else talk about this, except that old man in that bar. As time went on, more and more people had heard of the Illuminati. Still today almost nobody has heard of Golden Apple tho'.

So politics and spy vs spy and wars and geopolitical games are the original conspiracy theories. Going way way way back.

I have rarely ever seen the owner pull or close a thread in the 21 years (?) I have hung out on ATS .
The moderators make that decision and usually explain why as the last post in the thread .

Generally, it just says "thread closed for review" from what I've witnessed.

They don't really give a reason why, but it's not like you cannot guess half the time.

Political discussions are really pretty pointless, boring and repetitive. ATS, as to politics is pretty much one sided.

There is no other place to go. I'd guess that as 2024 elections come on, all of the internet will be moderated by the Government Party to insure political correctness.

It's pretty simple. You put up with the way ATS is run, or you leave. It doesn't matter what you think about it. You don't have "free speech" on ATS. The first amendment does not apply. If you insist on arguing the point, you are failing to understand something very basic. ATS is a privately owned site. The First Amendment enjoins the government, and ONLY the government, from restricting your free speech in a PUBLIC FORUM. ATS is a forum, and it is open to the public, but it s NOT a "public forum" in first amendment terms. That would be something like a soapbox in a public park owned and operated by the government.

I believe the moderation of this site is often capricious, uneven and inherently unfair. I have been censored on this site for what I consider to be totally unfair reasons by moderators who don't even understand what they are doing.

But it doesn't matter. If I don't like my treatment, I can leave. If everyone feels the same way, they can also leave and ATS will wither away to nothing. As imperfect as it is, ATS continues to be popular. So be it.

"Freedom of speech" means that liberals also get to talk about topics and present their point of view. It doesn't mean "bar the door, Nellie! Only conservatives here!"

Yes, they shut down threads that are Mud-Pit-ish. They don't do the board any good since they don't devolve into questions but rather into photo and video memes and bickering and name calling. While they can be entertaining to read, they're also "low information content" and prone to marching to more extreme views that may not reflect what's going on.

There's a lot of good discussion here, and some of it is creeping back.

BUT... if you want discussion that is ONLY conservative friendly, I think Truth Social might be your cup of tea. I'm guessing here because I am not a member of that site and I only occasionally stumble across one of the "truths" or "re-truths". However, I do know from other sources that they tend to shut down liberals pretty quickly.

So if it's conservative anger you want, that's probably your best bet.

This site is still not very liberal oriented (and the owners certainly don't seem to be), but with the closure of the Mud Pit and more regulation on sniping, it slowly seems to be migrating more towards what the old ATS was, with its discussion of conspiracies and Weird Stuff and away from the political wrangling that seems to be everywhere (and will only get worse in the future as the election approaches.)

After all, we liberals enjoy a good conspiracy. We may not agree with it but it's really useful to know what it is and the details of it and (occasionally) to help debunk the truly stupid stuff.

Agreed with Gothmog, here. I found the thread and read the last post. Here it is if you can't find it. I think that this was the correct move by moderators - and you'll notice that they even linked to the FULL video as an explanation - and to a transcript, as a bonus.

And that's the way we Denied Ignorance in the old days.
