Driving away from cops isn't a criminal offence.

Ummm... in France? I don't know... but in most places, yes, it is, if they have a legitimate reason (specific articulable facts supporting suspicion you are involved in a crime) to stop you.

I still don't think driving away is a crime. It's the cop who is indicted with homicide with intention. Having a legitimate reason to arrest you (suppose they did) is different from executing you. Resisting arrest or trying to escape doesn't warrant executions. Having been to Europe these events are rare in comparison to the US. But when they happen they trigger massive disorder, disobedience, looting or even killings. I won't be surprised if revenge is taken later on the cop who killed him.

I am not a friend of cops and especially killer cops but i would understand how what we see in the video could be considered as an assault on a police officer. And i bet in other so called advanced nations with way more trigger happy cops, in the same situation, at least two full mags would have been blown into that car.

Did he drive towards the cops?..if not, that is a very flimsy excuse to claim assault, I'm being polite when I say "flimsy"

Driving without a licence is in most places..not a crime. It's is often a misdemeanour offence.

He drove away from the two officers. The reason one is indicted with homicide. The other one is complicit but I don't know the charges, if any.

It's rare to see these incidents in Europe.

an offence this kid was not willing to accept the consequences for. Instead, he tries to run and did so after being warned he will be shot. That's plain stupid and won a Darwin award.

Well, driving off or failing to stop certainly doesn't warrant a warning of being shot here, doubt it does in France, either.

Murder plain and simple.

It's being reported here that these two cops originally claimed he drove at them. Then that video showed up.

Which shows he didn't

Bullsh@t excuse, people like you are why cops get away with murdering people. Sometimes they have it coming, this is not likely one of those times..hence why at least one of the cops is being investigated for homicide.

Yes, typical bad cop behaviour, lie their asses off.

Was the kid innocent? It will all come out, but a lot of you are assuming the police guilty. It smacks of a George Floyd situation. The only bit of video you see is the end, probably selected for the "look, it's a black and white case. He was murdered". Look at the video, the incident didn't start there. The two police are motorcycle cops, they didn't just come across a car stopped. They must have chased and stopped him. Now what happened before that damning video was shot? In non of the news articles does it say whether the car is his or was it a stolen vehicle. Somethings not right as when the car crashed a passenger ran off, you don't run away from a crashed car unless there is a reason to escape.

None of that is any excuse for shooting the fella.

He wasn't armed.

The video was taken on a phone by someone who was there when the shooting happened. From an upper floor, obviously.

So it's never going to show the whole thing.

Those cops lied about being driven at.

They didn't realise they were being filmed.

But, yeah. Shoot away, eh?

Must have been guilty of some TRAFFIC offence?

Got what he deserved?

No.

problem here is the underlying tensions that are rising. the French police have been in a constant war with the French public for the last few years am, just surprised this isn't happening more often.

Well that vid showed the kid trying to drive off with a cop leaning across the windscreen so I would think any half decent lawyer could make a case that he fired in fear of his life.

That said, the cops in France have burned up any public support over their treatment of the gilets jaunes and suchlike since.

He wasn't leaning across the windscreen.

He was at the driver's side window.

i doubt they think they should at war with the French public either but looking at the situation since Bataclan its an easy evolution to see. we've all seen the injuries protestors have had in France.

we get a protestor pushed over and killed its the end of the world.. they get fingers blown off, blinded etc.. at some point if no one gats them off this tract it'll end up deadly.. deploying 40,000 police is only going to take these risks to the next level.

Thay isnt what the video showed, when the car moved it took the cop with it because he was leant across enough to get caught by the car.

I still don't think driving away is a crime.

It doesn't matter what you think. Eluding a police officer and/or resisting arrest is a criminal offense.
