You're assuming these scientists will be constrained by some form of ethical standards.

I can't remember that last time that happened.

Fast food meat barely qualifies as meat, it is filled with so much flavored soy and other grain.
There may be protein in that "meat" but if you knew what it was, you wouldn't eat it.

The USDA would approve rodent meat if the campaign contributions are made to the right people.

Never understood the opposition to stuff like this tbh. But then again I choose not to eat meat full stop. I find modern animal farming really quite distasteful.

I would probably eat lab grown meat. Wouldn't eat the insects though.

Seems to have nothing but benefits honestly. In the future they'll be able to produce more food more efficiently using less space & resources and with significantly less cruelty. Fun.

Why in this World would you eat lab grown meat with it's DNA/Cells manipulated over insects ? Granted I'm not picking up earthworms or crickets in a farming area and will not pick dandelion from yards due to pesticides , But both can be farmed without pesticides and antibiotics .

With lab grown government controlled foods you will have no choice but take what ever they put in said fake foods .

I am well aware, and I still eat it. Only once or twice a year these days, but what's in it doesn't bother me.

As for OP, if it tastes like steak, I'm gonna eat it.

Inane paranoid nonsense as usual. This is an incredible feat of science and bioengineering. It could change the world. And yet here are the usual "gub'mint gon inject it with vaxeens" crowd. Lord give me strength.

With the technology regarding "flavor" now, they could make it taste like strawberry ice crème if they wanted.

I rather enjoy the cricket flavored peanuts.

So essentially it boils down to labs, scientists and the government = bad. Despite the fact that all are intimately involved in the food industry to begin with, have been forever and not everything they do is motivated by pure malevolence.

Isn’t meat derived from animals that ate plants and other animals that eventually derived their nutrition from soil i/e plant and animal waste?

Full disclaimer I am disgusted by poo-meat and would hope none ever eat it

I think in most cases malevolence takes a back seat to good old-fashioned greed.

This goo will need some.food to grow. What will that food be, pureed meet?

Here you go:

Instead of raising live animals for their meat, to make artificial meat (also known as “slaughter-free meat,” “clean meat” or “cultured meat”), stem cells from an animal’s muscle tissue — known as a donor animal — are combined with a serum. The serum is usually derived from the fetuses of dead cows.

The cells are fed sugar and salts, tricking them into thinking they’re still in an animal — this way they grow.

Over time, the muscle stem cells begin transforming as they strengthen, expand and mature into muscle fibers. Eventually, when enough of these fibers combine, you have a piece of meat.

Fat tissue may then be added to give the meat a flavor more consistent with traditional meat. Then, it’s hello dinner.

I'm a picky eater that's about to get a lot pickier.

Who on Earth would buy or eat this stuff Is this going to be the norm ?

You will likely not be made aware that its fake meat and actually will become illegal to mark it as non real meat.

Like they tried and I believe succeed in certain states to make it illegal to mark GMO products.

Not sure if meat would fall under the same GMO bill?

But don't worry its so good and in such a demand by the consumer that they will have to hide it from you.

People who don't want to unneedingly contribute to animal suffering. I do hope it becomes the norm, assuming that it will be as healthy.

The tech and public appeal definetly has a ways to go, but I'm all for this direction. Imagine if we could develope the best quality meat in mass quantities; no antibiotics, growth hormones, additives, and most importantly no animals that need to suffer.

Not to mention, the potential of environmental impacts it could have if it reduced a fraction of livestock. Assuming that this process could be done without using up more resources and pollution than factory farming.

Imagine in 20 years, if factory farms were barely present in society.

Not really, it is pretty skanky honestly.
The "vaxeen" crowd didn't just self-assemble in a vacuum.
Pie in face Bill Gates, who was divorced for being a pervert, whose related to Maxwell has spoken about injecting the food, de-population and other psychotic rants, is making this crap.

Yea.. really hoping Monsanto doesn't try to take this over and ruin it, like they did with GMOs. Hopefully the tech won't be copyrighted and the process, along with any potential risks is open for everyone to see.
