I am a 20 something. I support term limits for all political offices and here's why:

I do not trust an 80+ year old person to water my plants while I'm on vacation let alone run the country and make decisions on my behalf.

That is the obvious thing right? And according to this article, 82 percent of Americans support term limits for congress.

www.quorum.us...

Robert Byrd (interestingly) was the longest serving senator in American history. He spent 51 years helping a bunch of his cronies (both left and right, doesn't matter they're all billionaires why would you think they give a damn about us) steer america in the direction they wanted it to go.

John Dingell from my home state Michigan is the longest serving representative and he spent 59 years again, like his cronies steering the country in the direction they wanted it to go.

As far as active members of congress, we have 89 year old Chuck Grassley who has spent 41 years doing the same as his cronies. And still going. Not to mention the others in the news recently. Pelosi. Feinstein. McConnell and Graham too why not.

Who is voting for these people? Who wakes up in the morning on voting day and says "why no, I don't trust grandma to drive me to the polling place but I trust her to make decisions on behalf of me and 330 million other people"

Think and I mean REALLY think about it. Dingell served for 59 years. Basically 3 generations of voters. 3 generations. Put that in your mind. When Dingell took office he replaced HIS OWN FATHER! in a special election and then went on to win re-election 29 times and then was succeeded in office BY HIS OWN WIFE. Yes a special election to elect his wife to his seat after he won his own seat via special election from his father.

A real dynasty. A real pile of doo doo if you ask me. Doo doo for America.

These people are totally out of touch and WHY do they keep getting re-elected. Someone who was born in the 1940s or 1950s and had the benefit of opportunity from most things being made in America so more jobs, better jobs, the gold standard that Nixon did away with and allllllllllll the other perks the boomers got to live and benefit from.

My generation gets none of it. Why? Because it wasn't good enough to have decent paying factory jobs and non existent inflation. The boomers had to have more and cheaper. They are responsible for outsourcing all the manufacturing to 3rd world countries. The boomer generation single handedly hollowed out the American economy and ruined the country.

And we reward them with voter apathy. They hold 50 year reigns like a monarchy and don't get defeated in elections because the boomers are gonna vote for their 70 and 80 year old idols. But eventually the tide will change once the boomers start to die off. Unfortunately, I don't think it happens soon enough to save the country.

Sounds like you want to try the Logan's Run timeline

Joe Biden has been trying to get elected President since the 80s, but it wasn't till the Boomers' children could vote that his decrepit ass got elected.

I agree 1000 percent on term limits and age limits
also, eliminate 2 party system
and corporate lobbyists

None of that will happen either and in 10-15 years you will be much more conservative than you are now.

Now sing this song...

Americans rationalize there's nothing the average Joe and Jane can do about it, and it has been going on for a long time, and besides it's better than Beijing, Moscow, Tehran, P'yŏngyang, Mogadishu, Kyiv, London, Paris, Berlin, New Delhi, etc.

the problem is that term limits can only be implemented by law or constitutional amendment, and the very people it targets are the ones that control this.

we got Presidential term limits after FDR got four terms and both parties agreed this was a bad idea so they (in congress) got together with their friends in the media and pushed and got it.

would be nice to go back to the Constitutional Convention and get the boys to add that in the original.

If it weren't for the boomers designing and implementing the WWW. you couldn't have made this thread.

What have you done?

Greedy, corrupt, soulless politicians ruined America.

Just be careful that the Dark Side doesn't give you a 50+ year career.

And don't go charging in as the new sheriff who's gonna change everything. Be honest of your views but be tactful, and understand it often takes years of moving pieces into place to get things done.

Could you elaborate? Saying that they are the problem "along with others" is like saying "I don't like boomers because of reasons."

I was born on the cusp of GenX and had been raised by boomers. I also had the fortune to have had grandparents and a great grandmother to learn about the preceding generations. They may have conformed more to what was the social norms of their times then folks do now-a-days, but they were being lead by the government and corporate interests as much as anyone currently is today. So I will only lay the blame on what is happening now to the government and corporate agendas that still dominate our lives in this generation.

Getting past that "Boomers Caused All Our Problems" attitude of a 20 something that hasn't had life kick their ass for 50 or more years, I agree about how we shouldn't be letting anyone too old hold any job or responsibility of such magnitude as public office. Term limits and other issues are a good idea IMO as well. However, corruption will find away as long as personal self interests and greed are what people strive for when taking up a political office.

You’re entering your prime during a global awakening. You were born with access to information unlike generations of before. If you believe our downfall began with “The Boomers” then you have yet to look deeper.

As has been said, many great things have been accomplished by the baby boomers.

Rather than spewing generalizations, do something different than before and do it better. Otherwise, you’ve become that which you claim to despise.

Cheers to term limits. Let us know how it goes

LOL, you have been paying attention. Yes, look at the "Justice Democrats" for tips on how to play the long game. Look to PRC for tips on the REALLY long game. We are still arguing over who ate the crayons.
