It's something f a throwback to their glory years in Germany, but they are, once again arresting artists they don't agree with, jusst like uncle Adolf used to.
Telegraph article

Now you can be a fan of Roger Waters or not, you can find the man repulsive if you want to. I don't think you can honestly accuse the bloke of being a Nazi though.

That's exactly what the German state are doing, after he again drew parallels with how the Nazis treated Jews and how modern Israel treats Palestinians.

I personally think its a slightly lame comparison but I can see why so many on the left as well as the right hold views somewhere along the same spectrum.

What I cannot stand though is the idea of arresting someone or banning future concerts because their truths are uncomfortable for you.
I really did think that Germany would have learned the lesson of this sort of rubbish by now but it seems they haven't.

I’m not sure what Deviant art has to do with all this?

Back in the day,. the Nazi party labelled art that the fuhrer didnt like as deviant art and banned it. Burned it and persecuted the artists, Pretty similar to what is happening now I thought.

Ah. So not the website, DeviantArt.

That's sad but unsurprising that they're arresting artists they don't agree with. I'm a creative person (published writer and hobbyist artist) and I've become rather dismayed with the state of things. Not only in Germany, but all around the world they're redacting parts of books, changing art, etc. to fit whatever narrative TPTB want.

One thing, I really dislike calling everything "racist" or calling people "Nazis" nowadays. Both terms are so misused they've begun to lose their meaning, and that's truly dangerous.

Anyway, thanks for the news. I see you have the Writer ATS tag. How do you personally feel about the article?

Thanks, I was lucky enough to win the tag in one of the story comps way back.

My own personal view is that censorship in all its forms is just evil.

I guess it goes back to my younger days when Mary Whitehouse was on the telly all the time trying to get everything she didnt personally like banned. Anything from Tom and Jerry to gay people... The whole idea of censoring what others can see or do is just odious to me, I have a truly visceral hatred for it and it disgusts me that so called progressives are so stupid as to make the argument for censoring art they don't like.

I haven't heard of deviant art since back when kids were posting their daily suicide notes on live journal

And now Germany wants to ban it?

It's almost like history keeps repeating itself...

I don't think the US is going to be saving anyone this time around...

It's against the law in Germany to display Nazi symbols for very obvious reasons.
That's just how it is.
To compare that to what Hitler did because some old trash rockstar thinks he's above the law is pretty comical.

First the imagery he used was definitely intended to mimic that of the SS due to the message he was putting out. No denying that, but he absolutely was not trying to glorify the third reich which is really why Germany had these rules in the first place.

Secondly, it is absolutely what Hitler and the Nazis did, they turned the full power of the state on those they disagreed with to silence them. This is no different at all.

Except that it's totally different because 'the Nazis' were actually 'the Germans'.
So every display of Nazi symbols that isn't obviously 'negated' ie crossed out or in the trash or splittered etc. is forbidden.

Got the dude in question financially ruined, locked up, tortured &/or killed? No? Then it's really absolutely not what the Nazis did.

Now you are relying on semantics to try and wriggle out of it. No they havent put him in a death camp, the rest though, arresting him, shutting down his concerts is what the Nazis did, no difference there barring the levels of violence involved.

I honestly do get the natural aversion to third reich symbology that the people in Germany must feel, I do not think that there is any excuse to stomp on artistic expression like this though, its not as if he was out there encouraging people to become Nazis is it? More like he was teaching people to recognise the steps on the road that can lead to that sort of authoritarianism.

I think it's a fair comparison , Gaza has become the World's largest open air prison where Israel regularly engage in barrel shooting of fish , the theft of Palestinian land by Israeli settlements make that barrel ever smaller.

This is Roger's farewell tour so his message is stronger than ever , it's no wonder the powers that be want him silenced.

I support free speech and the freedom to speak freely , the erosion of that is our downfall which is their ultimate goal.

If you go to a country where whatever let's say alcohol is not allowed and you get drunk you get arrested.
You broke the law. End of story.

Great video mate thanks for posting it. Looks like a hell of a show all round.

I just hope it makes it onto Amazon or something.

Can't imagine anyone watching that show and desiring to join some neo nazi group frankly

# Palestine. Seriously I vomit a little everytime someone blames Israel for 'how bad they have it'.
Literally millions of aid have gone to Palestine over the years, plenty to build infrastructure, ensure healthcare and education, water, electricity... what did they do with it?
Invest it in weapons, terrorist training and the luxury of the elite. People live in those conditions because of their own bad Palestinian leadership.
Just to keep people hating Israel.
To keep the conflict brewing.
To fill their own pockets.

Except Roger Waters hasn't displayed Nazi symbolism , fascism isn't the preserve of Nazis but it is a growing problem in supposedly democratic governments which is , I believe , Rogers point.

It's exactly the same. It all fits in the same sentence.

X is not allowed in Y.

Now you can replace X by Nazi symbols, alcohol, music, pigs, porn....
And Y with the country.
Proof it is the same.
