Russia has denied that the fragments belong to a Kinzhal and in fact, matched it to another iskander missile part. There were no fragments from the Kinzhal to collect. What I read in a report was that the patriot system was the very latest iteration of the Patriot system .. the patriot was hit more than once, the radar central control was destroyed, one launch platform destroyed and another one badly damaged.

It is understandable that the US is very keen to keep this particular clash under wraps because the implications are rather frightening.

So if they were detained in July/August of last year.

Where are they now?

Should not be that hard to establish unless of course they are indeed in Russian custody.

If it's bullsh#t or hyperbole you would imagine statements would be made to dispel such notions that would materialise around the same time or not long after the claims made.

Some links to this ""report"" that you read might be nice?

Two of the 3 scientists were arrested in June/August of 2022. A 3rd was arrested 3 weeks ago for publishing his work on gas dynamics in a foreign scientific journal.

According to Russian media reports, Zvegintsev was detained three weeks ago on charges of publishing scholarly work on gas dynamics in a foreign scientific journal. The scientist is currently under house arrest.

Shiplyuk was arrested in early August 2022, and at the end of June, Anatoly Maslov was also arrested on suspicion of high treason. Both scientists were detained at Lefortovo detention center in Moscow.

According to The Moscow Times, Shiplyuk and Maslov have been working on hyper-sonic missile research for over ten years. They presented an experimental design for this weapon in 2012 at a scientific conference in France. Four years later, they published a joint article on hyper-sonic aerodynamics.

That's nice that Russia said that, feel free to show us a Kinzhal side by side with an Iskander and the fragments above which proves your/their point.

ETA: The funny thing is the Iskander is also a Mach 6 hypersonic missile, but for some reason Patriot can't shoot down hypersonic missiles. Except when it's an Iskander....even when it's not.

Russia has denied that the fragments belong to a Kinzhal and in fact, matched it to another iskander missile part.

Russia denied they were planning to invade Ukraine , since then Russia has denied many things that turned out to be true , the Kremlin and their Tsar are accomplished liars but if you choose to believe what Russia says that's your choice.

It's equally likely that Russia does not want to admit that it's "unstoppable" missile is anything but.

China may want their money back, for starters.

The proof 'as they say' is in the pudding

That I can agree with.

But note well what you subsequently stated does not logically follow. Patriot batteries shooting down Kinzhals or not, Russia will still conduct missile attacks against Kyiv.

The pudding you're looking for is if Patriot launches in Ukraine continue to take place as Russian strikes occur.

Cheers

Nah, if nothing else, the Kinzhals are good to make copies of with some local modifications. And once China can do that, they won't order any more Kinzhals from Russia.

Further study would seem to suggest the Kinzhal missile travels at around Mach 4 for the majority of its time in the air.

It only travels at Mach 10 in the final phase of its journey to the designated target.

Else it would simply melt and disintegrate down to the limitations of Russian material science long before reaching its intended target.

My understanding is that the newer Patriots are armed with PAC-3 missiles capable of destroying targets traveling upwards of Mach 5 which may explain how the SAM was able to down the Russian Kinzhals.

This seems a more realistic article. Nothing to do with the Ukraine pretending they shot down hypersonic missiles. The latest scientist (other two were detained last year) was detained over an article he wrote in an Iranian science journal.

It's best now to just wait and see if Kiev is protected if it is, then problem solved. At the speed things are developing I don't think it will be long before the patriot/Kinzhal question is answered .. that last little burst by the patriot would have set the US back $150,000,000, just trying to defend itself and failing to do so .. allegedly! .. it all seems rather pointless doesn't it?

Let's suppose that the patriot system was affective and that it hadn't just got its ass whooped. Surely all Russia has to do is send over some cheap drones to exhaust the system until it becomes too expensive to operate. How long can US afford to spend that kind of money?

On April 28, 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on life imprisonment for treason. Now citizens can get a life sentence for espionage, issuing information constituting state secrets to foreigners, going over to the side of the enemy, etc. Prior to this, the maximum punishment under the article was up to 20 years in prison with a fine of up to 500,000 rubles.

Well that part of the article certainly does not bode well for the poor fools.

Good luck to them trying to get justice from the likes of Vladimir Putin and his regime if indeed that is the case.

Except Ukraine has developed other methods to spot and defeat drones. They don't need the Patriots for that mission.

High treason, apparently.

"This organisation does not tolerate failure", springs to mind.

Funny, I first saw articles on the Ukrainians shooting down missiles Russia claimed could not be shot down? Then I saw articles on the detentions. I don’t think it’s a coincidence…

I don't think they need to use Patriot's to knock down cheap drones.

They have been shooting them down since before they had any Patriots.

We can’t afford it….

31 trillion in debt…

How could the USA not learn from the USSR going belly up? It’s so stupid, it seems like bankrupting the country is being done on purpose. Baffling.

But we didn’t learn from covid we shouldn’t be dependent on China.

We didn’t learn from the different oil crises not to be dependent on foreign oil.

And from everything, we haven’t learned not to be dependent on countries that don’t like the USA.

There was another barrage of missiles last night with most of them being downed from multiple reports.

With the isolationists policy going on against Russia with economics and sport, looks like it is expanding into academia as well. With these types of stories going around it sets that 'loose lips sink ships' tone. Been a lot of research going on into this kind of tech from all around the world for a while now.
