My point here? It's do your research...and this is and always was by ATS...a "privately owned MEMBERS ONLY site"..with their own rules.

You can always start your own if ATS isn't enuff....

Well I don't know what you are trying to imply. I have been visiting this site periodically since 2003 when I got my first computer and this site was the place to go for ufo/alien stuff. Just because I recently joined the site doesn't mean I haven't been visiting for many years. What was I doing 18 years ago? Well I'm over 40 so you do the math, probably working a lot. I have only visited reddit a few times but what I see there is not very conducive to normal conversation like what occurs here.

The issue of "Freedom of Speech" on ATS

Here, your "freedom of speech" is a privilege granted by the owner of this website. Any topic whatsoever can easily be discussed without insults, vulgarities, and taunting language. Our management style, organized structure, and efficient services are designed to created an environment in which members aspire to our higher standards, not scoff at them.

So then it's "Privilege of Speech" not "Freedom of Speech" as privilege does not equate to freedom.

That being said, There is nothing that gets discussed on this entire forum that, no matter how impassioned one may be, can't be deliberated with a modicum of decorum and tact.

Help me understand. Exactly what is it that is wanted to be said that you cannot say, that makes you think your right to free speech is being restricted?

I am hearing, and I can be wrong, that you want to be able to use the same manner of speech, the same tone, and the same words you would use when speaking with your friends in a bar or anywhere, at work, at church, in an elementary school, online, anywhere.

I would see a problem with that even if we were not living in a present day society were civility has gone the way of the dinosaurs, and morals in our society are completely non existent.

Using racist, rude, vitriolic words does not encourage communication or conversation, so what is the real purpose?

I hear the word snowflake thrown around a lot, but it, like so many of the buzz words created and constantly regurgitated online and in memes, is nothing more than social programming. Buzz words, triggering words, a successful tool that reflects what you have been programmed to think and to manipulate how you are to respond.

Free speech was never about giving you permission and the right to let anything you think or feel pour out of your mouth.

“A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.” Even if you are not a snowflake.

That poison can be deadly to those it is used against, but can be just as deadly to the one that spits it.

I see no purpose for vulgarity in speech other than to relieve the person that pens the words, or vomits the words, of a little of the evil they are feeling, for an extremely few seconds of time.

Forgive me if I am reading this wrong. Explain it to me as if a was a three year old child.
