Interstingly, the source (MediaIte) relies on the New York Times article as a source for the report... (a report about a report.)

Ukraine War Plans Leak Prompts Pentagon Investigation

The article heads off with the statement that:

Classified documents detailing secret American and NATO plans have appeared on Twitter and Telegram.

"Twitter" and "Telegram" denotes a particular kind of user, and seems to belie the idea that we don't know who "leaked" the information. "Someone" posted it. There are no mysteries like "unattributed" ones. In fact, leaks could be narrowed down further by simply asking "Who was given access to these plans?" Frankly, I wonder not only who... but "how many?" How many people "needed to know" the "plan?"

I sense a weakness of foundation already, and I haven't even begun to 'entertain' the "content" of the "leak."

Apparently some unnamed military "analysts" said the documents appear to have been modified in certain parts from their original format, overstating Ukrainian war dead and understating Russian troops killed. Here's the rub... does that not directly imply that those "military analysts" had access to the actual plans? Or isn't it more likely that the military analysts we are talking about are "consultant" analysts of the news agency... (we all know what they are.)

The modifications could point to an effort of disinformation by Moscow, the analysts said.

So now we are to infer that the leak came from Moscow? But we don't know who 'leaked' it - right? Obviously someone who had access to it... someone who could "modify it" right?

Biden officials were working to get them deleted but had not, as of Thursday evening, succeeded.

Of course they were ... right on top of everything... they were working on it... deleting them... cause that is what you do with leaks ... you "delete" them. (But I have a hair appointment, and then there's Sally birthday gathering... we'll get to it in the morning.")

It was unclear how the documents ended up on social media. But pro-Russian government channels have been sharing and circulating the briefing slides, military analysts said.

The analysts warned that documents released by Russian sources could be selectively altered to present the Kremlin’s disinformation.

“Whether these documents are authentic or not, people should take care with anything released by Russian sources,” said Michael Kofman, the director of Russian studies at CNA, a research institute in Arlington, Va.

Unclear? Let's offer them some help... you see the internet is made of tubes that go round and round and end up here.

Oh man... this is really aggravating my sense of calm...

The more I read, the more I realize that this is information warfare. And we are the "ants on the hill" while the elephants stomp around.

The players are the same, the message is the same, the noise is the same... this is, to use a phrase I personally dislike, a nothing-burger. It's theater to reinforce the "Us - good, Them - bad" label... where we do no wrong and "they" are obviously more evil than anyone can imagine.

A WORD ON PLANS...

I wonder if people are generally aware that the US has "plans to invade Canada," "plans to invade Europe," or "plans to invade Mexico?" ... We do. The military must always have some idea of how to perform these act, in case some outrageous unforeseen circumstances should arise. It's called being prepared. Having a plan is not the same as having intent... or ability.

Plans are never 'shared' and highly protected... because no plan is static - it changes frequently, to accommodate new situations, diplomacy, politics, technology, etc.

Nothing is ever "leaked" by accident. And just because you find a slip of paper with the heading "Who to invite to Joe's surprise birthday party" does not mean Joe is having a birthday party thrown for him. It's a piece of paper, it's a plan... things change faster than plans can be made.

i can tell you why the war in UK is BS. first off NATO is being run by criminals. they are the worldwide child and woman sex traffic cult. that is why you see un documented woman and children disapear when they have wide open borders. also i dont think russia and china are what they say.... i just think they stepped away from joining NATO because they know exactly what these nato leaders are and they say hell no. dont believe me? just watch TV for awhile and youll start to see signs when they are showing children sexual crap with adults and trannys. it is gonna get worse and worse until chidren wont even recognize it anymore and that scares the hell out of me. this needs to end before it becomes permanent

I don't know why you think the war should be happening everywhere at once. There's a front line. Russia can't just magically teleport their troops wherever they want.

Also you:

Across a front stretching thousands of kilometers, with tens of thousands artillery shells fired every day. But even the number for Ukraine seems a bit low.

Help me out here?

It leaked on 4chan from what I understand.

Now that would immediately garner the skepticism deserved, right?

Problem is, media went into overdrive about the leak, and the pentagon.

...not the substance of the underlying information.

Well, I would suspect they wouldn't want to go overboard on the information itself, especially since if it was a real leak of classified information they would have to pursue an investigation... they won't.

If the information was actual US intelligence, they would have to change all their plans... which makes the information moot from a tactical point of view; if it were fake plans to confuse and confound the enemy the leak destroys the value.

Ever since the dawn of "government by contractor" leaks are a common thing now, no? Oh wait, that's just the FBI, right? ... I find all "leaks" and "hacks" to mostly be lazy information engineering ... Of course that's just a theory by a mere citizen.

“We are aware of the reports of social media posts and the department is reviewing the matter,” said Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh, according to The New York Times.

“The documents mention, for instance, the expenditure rate of HIMARS — American-supplied high mobility artillery rocket systems, which can launch attacks against targets like ammunition dumps, infrastructure and concentrations of troops, from a distance,” The Times reports. “The Pentagon has not said publicly how fast Ukrainian troops are using the HIMARS munitions; the documents do.”

What struck me first was that this statement was made by the Pentagon's Press Secretary's office.

The statement is framed against “The Pentagon has not said publicly how fast Ukrainian troops are using the HIMARS munitions; the documents do.”

Note that how fast Ukrainian forces consume ammo is not exactly a secret. Numerous reports have been published about the ammunition crisis Ukraine is said to be experiencing. Most NATO countries are especially focused on resupplying ammunition (although there have been several wrinkles in the effort.)

I would not think this is especially sensitive information... but I could be wrong. If it were, the Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary probably shouldn't be mentioning it. But again, I could be wrong.

More "substance" is reportedly incoming. The National Guardsman leaker understood how government operates...and was expected to be caught at some point.
