In my view the X-Files was probably the best long standing TV series ever made and also probably the last decent series made without the over use of CGI. I observe the more CGI used the weaker the story lines tend to be. The question is, do you agree with me on the X-Files and do you think a reboot could or should be made. I believe Chris Carter is keen on the idea although it would have to be without Mulder and Scully.

Oh on a side not 1996 Scully (Gillian Anderson) Wow, just wow, I'd have married her in a heartbeat if I wasn't 13 years old at the time.

Not no, but Hell no. There are some things you just can't reproduce. Look what they did with Ghostbusters.
A reboot in today's society would be some woke BS. Scully would be gay, Mulder would be trans and probably the aliens too.

They need to leave well enough alone.

You are probably right, maybe nostalgia just gets the better of me sometimes. I don't think they could easily find a pair with the same on screen chemistry as Duchovny and Anderson plus like you say it would probably be woke. I am 40 years old and I find that I rarely watch new TV. I basically just watch re-runs these days through streaming services.

There is a saying in the UK, go woke, go broke.

I am just wondering when large corporations are going to catch up and realise that.

Oh joy…
Another cash grab by a studio to milk every penny from a beloved franchise.
There is absolutely no way to capture the lightning in a bottle that X files did in the 90’s.

Especially when they build the show for modern audiences…😂

To add to the unlikeliness of it being a decent show too, the rights are now owned by Disney, possibly the wokest of the lot. How ironic considering Walt Disney was an incessant anti-semite.

I won't be tuning into that.

I assume that you're not talking about the seasons 10 & 11 reboots which in my opinion, are the best episodes of the series, probably because they had a finite number of episodes so what the hell, let's go for broke. And I really enjoy the movies.

Any reboot will probably be geared towards today's audiences rather than the original audience. Whether or not I'd watch it would depend on how much (apologies for dragging this in) how woke they go.

I can imagine that in 2023. X-Files programs about men having babies.

Just thinking about it the X-Files had some current stars in it very early on in the career. Just a few I can remember

Laurie Holden
Ryan Reynolds
Luke Wilson
Giovani Ribisi

There are loads more I just cannot recall them right now. Can anybody remember any others?

I'm not interested in rebooting anything. Least of all X-Files. The show was great, I re-watched it a year or two ago and it was still awesome.

Another annoying thing. Back then a season would be like 20 - 24 episodes, now you might get only 8. And anything decent is only going to be available on a service that costs $8 per month.

The 24 episode seasons is an American thing, in europe most series are 6 to 8 episodes. Sometimes the 24 episodes works like in X-Files but in most cases like Lost ect. it really was just padding out a storyline that could be told in 8 episodes but over 24, mostly for revenue stream purposes a.k.a. advertisers. The reason you probably see 8 episodes now is that streaming services do not have ads. Lost was fantastic for 2 seasons but after that it was laborious watching it. You could just turn on the last 5 minutes of each episode as that is the only time anything happens in the episode just to leave you on a knife edge so you watch the next episode. In my view 24 episode seasons were in most cases bad.

Any new Xfiles...would absolutely be diluted with every single cgi and fx they can throw in it. That's how it'll work.

This is what you want?😆

Do you honestly believe shows are designed for us without necessary sales incentives, fx, n more to increase commercial sales?

Shows are only to make $$. Period. They aren't for our enlightenment.

To expect better than the original is folly. It would have to be bad...as nothing, compares to an "original".

Peace

No, I never said I agreed with it, I just know Chris Carter has publicly stated he is keen to try it. Ypu are right about CGI, I thought movies and TV was better with props and models even though you could clearly tell they were fake as opposed to convincing CGI. As I said already in this thread CGI is often used to compensate for poor writing.

Yeah hard pass on that one...

At this point it would probably focus on gender identity, and skin color more than the paranormal.

No they should NOT reboot X-Files.

A reboot shows they're already out of creativity (do an original series if you think you got the right stuff). Rubbing their woke # in our faces, while trying to mask awful writing and acting with special effects, will seal it and not in a good way.

Maybe they can surprise us, but the odds aren't in their favor.

They did that in the American Horror Story series.

Yes. Hence my point! Nothing is usually better than an original.

PS I still watch Xfiles...and you're right...theres not many fx...so can you imagine how the new one would be saturated with all the newest fxs.

God damnit, people, quit coat-tailing the OG # and come up with your own junk for once

Gawd., enough with applauding unimaginative copycatting

I wouldn't mind seeing the series resume with a new pair

Mulder and Scully would be alive and well but not involved. Scully would probly be doing lab work or instructing. Mulder maybe spooking for some obscure agency. or maybe retired, living in the Pac NW with an anonymous blog.

the aliens are still out there...
I thought CC might wrap it up with an invasion in 2012 or so, but I guess not.
