Yea I fell asleep in an hour and half the totals are going to continue to climb TRT is expecting quadruple-digit totals in Turkey alone, who knows what totals will come out of Syria...

so weird seeing the drone cams show 4 or 5 10-14 story buildings all the same construction and design grouped together, 3 areas still standing, and 1-2 are nothing but rumble. Pure fate, some left searching through 15 levels of pancaked concrete and rebar. They are at least rescuing some pulling people out battered , bruised and shell shocked

Son reporting from Cyprus that another 7.5 hit Turkey.
Now I feel there's a bigger one to hit.
Sincerely hope I'm very wrong!

I feel you may be right. These quakes may be foreshocks, not after shocks.

No words, just prayers for the multitude of victims and to give the rescuers fortitude.

Looking at the quake locations, it looks like the unzipping of a long fault as they all appear to be in a long line.

Absolutely horrendous for the people over such a large area in both Turkey and Syria.

Yes, exactly. The swarm is concentrated along The East Anatolian Fault, which is a strike-slip fault line.

Very dangerous and scary.

So these quakes are heading southward down the fault line then?
Looks like it.
Not good.

PS, I have emailed a fellow therapist/student who lives in Turkey. Seriously hope I hear back from her.

that is good for you, in Turkey the official count is 1710 buildings destroyed so far. wonder how many people are laying in that rubble?

You missed his point. No earthquakes and unusually heavy snowpack means that when that pack lifts, it can cause rebounding and movement in areas where that has been no pressure release *because* there has been no quake all that time.

I think the big question is if they are smaller though still big. If they are getting bigger, then it's a real issue. If they are smaller, then at least they are aftershocks. That's still bad, but at least it does mean that things are settling back down.

This isn't completely on topic but I sat up last night watching videos of this devastation and I noticed some of the areas had snow on the ground but some of the areas had palm trees. How can two cities so close together have such differences in weather?
