No. I could see that from out of my office window, and it looked nothing at all like the pictures. Those were way too small to match.

Well, if it IS an enemy balloon, shooting it down would be a great way to release any possible biological warfare agents into the jetstream.

IMHO I think they should wait till it comes down or find a way to get it before it does so.

Shooting it down would destroy much of what you would use to get intel, and its a risk to anything below it

After it leaves the coast shoot it down over open water. Been mentioned we got to believe the military has sniffer tech for nukes and biologicals #1 That R-135 is designed just for that and there has been one circling it along its whole route.

and #2 do you really think this was China's first strike weapon? Hell more likely it's a diversion.

I got to ask this cause I know you are military, thank you for your service BTW, but what are the chances the military did indeed all the right moves and has been on it since the beginning much to China's chagrin? All indications are Biden was briefed on Tuesday. While I don't like them keeping it a secret it doesn't preclude them doing exactly the right thing no matter how its looks to the masses, is that possible hear?

Basic nuclear reactions, biological whatever, and sailing a balloon are 50’s children’s toys. Anyone could do it.

If you lack that understanding - it speaks volumes for modern “education”. The only issue might be access to refined materials for proper delivery.

Much like current firearm BS. If they could make it in the 1500s, and one has access to modern tooling/materials/knowledge…I just don’t get it.

Are any of you the kind of people who are too scared to drive, and like to try to scare others away from driving? Honest question, and would like some feedback.

Just like everybody learns at thier own pace, everybody reacts differently to different stimuli. But I grew up in a world where you have space to be yourself, and have different life experiences.

It's not the balloon that's just the vehicle, the 90-foot array that's dangling from it, BTW

It's just people discussing current events, it's semi-entertaining, and football is almost over, TV and movies suck mostly.
Most importantly for me takes my mind off my real life and my real concerns for a few hours.

don't get the fear vibe though, but haven't read the whole thread either.

I'm most concerned you are in a country that makes you read threads you don't enjoy.

That's got to be a big bummer, in my country we are allowed to skip the threads that make us sleepy

It's an interesting topic for some and right in a conspiracy theorist's wheelhouse, usually when airspace is breached it's just aircraft on the fringes. So if nothing else it's kind of historic, enjoy the political drama if nothing else.

Otherwise, what would you enjoy discussing Alignment? there are very few subjects that ATS doesn't have a forum dedicated to it specifically.

Dolly Moore (I believe her name was) shot the vid . Every news outlet and their granny wanted permission to use it. They asked her on her twitter account. People were telling her to sell it to the news outlets, but she gave them permission to use it for free.

The RC-135 doesn’t have the capability to detect nuclear materials, that’s the WC-135.

Come on Zaphod do you really believe it has nuclear materials on board, They could gave easily sent a WC-135 days ago. Isn't one in Nebraska

Are you suggesting the US military hasn't gone over whatever balloon they are tracking with every sensor they have currently in the arsenal?

FAWK it's been sniffed and prodded by the WC-135 already, would there be a reason to continually monitor it once it's been cleared of containing nuclear material?

Hell at this point if they have been tracking it this whole time they have used everything we got, it's been sniffed, x-rayed, etc. I'd be pissed if they didn't real-world training is invaluable.

Am I right or wrong?

Hope this wasn’t posted already. But in the video, you should see the “the flash” of the explosion. Then whole seconds should pass before hearing any sound from the explosion. Sound travels around 1080 feet / a second. If the explosion was one mile away. There should be the flash of the explosion then the sounds of explosion five seconds later. For example.

There is currently one operational WC-135, and it’s been doing Baseline work around South America the last couple of weeks. NEST may have checked it out, and the F-22s that first approached it would have been gone over carefully, but the WC hasn’t checked it.

The RC crews have been tearing the signals from it apart like nobodies business. No one is taking it lightly, or not doing their jobs, it’s just that they aren’t doing what people are freaking out and screaming that they should do.

Is it a safe assumption that we are (and have been) jamming the balloon's ability to collect data?

Questions of the military shooting down the Chinese balloon but since that no longer over Montana…. No..

Meteor maybe?

Makes perfect sense.

Any idea why China would risk this exposure, when they could've used satellites?

Dunno, TAT.

Old days, answer would have automatically been yes. Not sure these days with WokeForce. I wish I could feel as confident as Zaphod58 seems to be.

Cheers

Like with everything in this game it boils down to risk/reward. You ask 1000 people in the military planning and intelligence offices what the biggest intelligence threats are, and I’ll bet 999 never even consider balloons. And the one that does is the office loon. Things break slightly differently here, and it doesn’t get seen by a passing plane when it does, and they may get it over some installations when things are going on and they get data from it.

Way too many Intel aircraft operating in areas that they never do for them not to be sucking in tons of Intel on this thing. They even launched a tanker to refuel Combat Sent so she could stay on station.

Not over Montana. And US Hypersonic development is going nicely. HAWC completed all of its test flights. ARRW completed the three in a row to get production approval and will fly with a live warhead this year.

Sorry man, I wasn't freaking out or screaming, hell times like these your posts are gold

I'll type in a smaller and happier font. LOL

hell, where do you find out what's operational and where?

I would assume it's through the grapevine and that stuff is on the down low, but if not how about a link or 3, I love researching this stuff. One would have to assume we have shifted birds all over the place in the last year alone.

While I believe our military has its shift together and is likely the most competent entity involved.

I don't know for a fact military has its shift together, thus the questions.

quick research show it was stationed in Puerto Rico during its mid-January sniffer runs.

This brings up another totally unrelated point why test in South America first? do we have reasons to do the first runs off the South American coast?

Something just came up from points down south recently according to this

and there is this

For not active, the AMARG public inventory. It’s usually published monthly, includes all the aircraft in storage by serial number, date they arrived, and were they’re stored.

For active stuff, just about all the MAJCOMs have social media. From Facebook to Twitter. They put out quite a bit of information. Then it’s just a matter of watching ADS-B and putting information together.

Upcoming stuff, Defense Industry Daily and Aviation Week usually have the best. Aviation Week has paid subscriptions or a free signup. I just use the free side.

Nothing special about South America. This is a “new” WC-135. It was converted from a KC-135 recently. This is its first deployment so they wanted to stay close to home in case they had any issues. They take baseline readings all over the world and hadn’t been to South America in like 30 years.

There’s been an exercise going on off the coast for a couple days. You don’t see most of the platters because they don’t broadcast.
