This should be a wake up call for the wealthy.

It doesn't need to be just the rich. In Portland OR they voted for a homeless friendly/sanctioned city, defund the police as an overall culture level of thought, and then homeless move onto their front yards and they call the police to get those undesirables away from their house.

With much of the left they are all in for things that do not affect them personally. If they personally need to pay, personally need to support the homeless, personally are affected by evens then it is an all hell no reaction.

Council member Rick DeGolia has reportedly said that "it's not possible to build low-income housing in Atherton since land is worth about $8 million per acre."

The land is worth whatever government says it is under Eminent Domain.

Not true.

Of course, the government would love for you to believe that. But Just compensation means the going rate... what it is worth, and you can use tax records to make that determination.

If the owner doesn't sell it for next to nothing, they can just take it.

Again, no. This attitude probably comes from people who had land taken from them under eminent domain but were paid less than they thought oy was worth - which could easily have just been their biased overvaluation...

That said, I have huge problems with the entire concept of eminent domain, while admitting that there are some situations that may justify it.
