The average lifespan in the US has lost 2 years since 2020.
So, in that respect, at least...time is actually speeding up.

I blame Joe Biden.

And a couple of earthquakes has sped time up just fractions of a second but they did speed time up.

As I get older, I slow down so it seems as if time is speeding up. Then again some days seem to drag on and on, ....

your spot on...

as I slow down, time remains constant, But i restrict my 'projects' to what i can complete in a half-day or full-day

so world events flash by... but my bubble-of-time seems to lose speed in getting things done...

good luck sorting it out

Slowing down may explain some of it, but when I get immersed in a creative project, and when I realize that 6 hours have gone by in what felt like a half hour, then the passage of time has no meaning.

If time really was speeding up, how would you be able to tell?

Get a timer count and time yourself counting to 20 by Mississippi's and see how close it is?

I don't believe in that though.

I think that time is like sand in an hour glass and that the less you have, the faster it seems to go.

The older you get the slower you become.
Responsibilities and commitments take up your time. So now you have only a few hours of me time for the thing that make you happy in any given week.

The Universe continuously expands at faster rates. Over periods of 10 year increments, people notice everything seems faster. 😎

Another concept that I read some where, some time ago was having to with memory.

Department of Translational Neurosciences and Neurotherapeutics at the John Wayne Cancer Institute at Providence Saint John’s Health Center.

This perception may be due to a few factors, Kesari points out, firstly that when we're children, a year of life amounts to much more time of existence, percentage-wise.

“For a 10-year-old, one year is 10 percent of their lives,” Kesari says. “For a 60-year-old, one year is less than two percent of their lives.”

Additionally, when we are children, we are constantly being introduced to new things and ideas that leave lasting impressions on our memories.

“We gauge time by memorable events and fewer new things occur as we age to remember, making it seem like childhood lasted longer,” Kesari says.

Makes sense . I dont feel like Im getting old faster just like time is going by faster if that makes sense. Like its why people are almost 80 and look 60 and still working.

They havnt aged as much as there age says they are

I saw some smart guy maybe it was Neil Tyson talking about Space like a funnel . So it gave me the thought that if space was a like a funnel wouldnt time be like a funnel too

This topic is terribly depressing..

..unless you're miserable enough to not wish you were alive or care about how long you live.

I suppose if you truly believed in a higher power, an afterlife etc, it would be comforting and you wouldn't care so much because you're going to heaven and actually live eternally, for infinity. Maybe that's why the idea of heaven came about.

I personally find that hard to believe. I used to believe in it, but as I got older and learned more, it just became more and more unrealistic. I'm not even sure if we have "souls" anymore. Might just be flesh robots with free will running on our brain hardware and software.

Every time we feel anything, it's because of a chemical being utilized by our brain cells or a signal from one to the other carried by electricity.

Here's the thing though - while I would concede that time 'seems' to go faster as a person gets older -

In the last several years, when I have asked young people (teenagers, young adults) whether time seems to go slow or fast to them...
...they all report that it seems really fast! I remember being in my 20's (in the early 1990's) and never thinking that time seemed to speed by, yet my 24 year old daughter and her friends have been talking about how fast time goes for years...

Granted, it could be something they picked up from having older parents...?

I'd be interested in knowing what kind of response others posting in this thread get if they start asking younger people in their lives about whether time seems to be going faster than they remember.

Yes, I'm turning 61 shortly and yes, time seems to have 'speeded up' in the last few, but even my children, mid 20's and early 30's are saying the same thing!

Another factor may be the speed by which we now get information.
The Internet has expedited the pace by which we measure how events around us transpire.

No it hasn't been speeding up for me. If you don't pay attention to what's going on and your surroundings at all times then it will seem like the weeks are flying but they really are not. Last week and especially this week have been really slow and boring national and world headline news weeks if you ask me! 🦕🐢 🐌

Mass shootings don't count anymore because those seem to happen every week in the good old USofA now!

I have a theory I like to think about when I smoke. Like times been speeding up since the Big Bang exponentially. And at any given moment, it’s only been 7,000 years since creation. A million years from now, the universe will still only be 7,000 years (units) old.
