This was a 17 year old on probation for POISONING a girl's drink. He should have already been in prison for that crime alone. That fact shows that Gascon doesn't take crime seriously. After watching the video of Bacca plowing into the young mother and her 8 month old son, it is clear that he took no measures to avoid her when he had plenty of time and space to steer away from her. In fact, it appears he ran into them on purpose. You can see in the video that the mother sees and/or hears him coming, stops walking and actually backs up a bit and waits to see what is going on but can't avoid him plowing directly into them.
I see also that the killing of Bacca might have been the result of an argument completely unrelated to the woman (Rachel) he hit and her son. But like she said "The universe delivered the justice we weren't given in court, but a much harsher punishment than he'd have been dealt in a court of law."
So be it.

The tragic reality, is that due to the judicial incompetence, it has supplied fertilizer for vigilantism. And they will be playing right into Gascon's hands.

That's fine. A few people willing to go to prison means a safer community for the kids. It's happened before.
