Well, at least they appear to be considering a "cure."

Researchers have discovered that salen can effectively bind a number of proteins of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. CoV-2’s Scientists utilized molecular docking to reveal that salen binds to the non-structural protein nsp14, which prevents the virus from being destroyed. The discovery may aid in the development of novel drugs and coronavirus infection treatments. The study’s findings were recently published in the journal Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds.

Coronavirus Cure Breakthrough – Scientists Have Found a Potential Basis

As it turns out, salen is a chemical which binds to the nitrogen atoms in a protein known as nsp14. The nsp14 protein is significant because it ...

...is involved in viral RNA replication, provokes a transcriptional profile that strongly resembles that observed following SARS-CoV-2 infection. Moreover, Nsp14 expression alters the splicing of many genes, increases the number of circRNAs, and activates the NFkB pathway...

...Viruses are parasites, relying on the cells they infect to make more of themselves. In doing so they change how an infected cell turns its genes on and off, forcing it to build new virus particles and turning off the immune surveillance that would allow the body to intervene. This is how SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID, survives with a genome that carries instructions to make just 29 proteins.

One of these proteins, known as Nsp14, is involved in both virus reproduction and immune escape. Previous work has shown that it interacts with IMPDH2, the cellular enzyme that controls the production of the building blocks of the genetic code. The impact of this interaction is not clear.

SARS-CoV-2 Nsp14 mediates the effects of viral infection on the host cell transcriptome

It could be an important avenue for research since in binding to the protein it effectively changes the shape (morphology) of the virus while altering it's protein-making behavior.

I found this an interesting idea. I hope you do too.

A good cure for covid is to turn the news off ....
Or ivermectin ... Vitamin d...zinc quercetin... Vitamin C ... Glutathione ....Nad+.. black seed oil ... That does the job nicely
Personaly I won't be trusting anything "science " has to say for quite a while .....

We can't abandon science.

I understand, and can relate to, not trusting certain scientists.

But science is the tool we have.

It's a little ironic that people say that they don't trust big pharma regarding the vax, but that their alternative solution is a product like ivermectin which is ... shockingly ... a product of the exact same big pharma companies.

This is the equivalent of saying that you won't vote for AOC, and then campaigning to put Bernie on the ballot.

So how many other nitrogen based proteins does salen interact with? Lets say it does stop covid, what else is it stopping? On first impressions, salen does sound similar to glycophosphate (Roundup) in how it responds to metals.

In trying to understand the full tapestry of biochemistry, it is a complex language that burns my brain. Perhaps it is best others sort out this puzzle. For now will pass on being a medical experiment and stick to vit D.

Speaking as an older member, I grew up with a whole host of anti-science movies. The villains were almost always scientists "meddling in things that they didn't understand", or "trying to push the boundaries of knowledge" and not listening to people who told them that they were going to far.

The heroes of the story ... the military. Always the military. Sometime the military aided by a reasonable scientist who accepted that "there were things that man was not meant to know". But there would be the military there to bravely put into action the plan.

It was pure propaganda fueled by the cold war.

What we're seeing today is something very similar. Except not with the military as the heroes.

Your cautionary approach is exactly what many "commercial" scientists might lack. "Gain of function" comes to mind.

But it is clear that what affects one thing might just affect another. I would say your point is well met.

Ivermectin was discovered in Japan.... From soil I believe...
Ivermectin is not made by Pfizer.... And yes some good things have come from science ....but now we have "science" which is more of a religion now days that must not be questioned

I would propose that the unquestionability you're referring to is more about 'marketing' than science. It is one of the perils of commerce being the godhead sponsor of some scientific activity.

Respectfully I grew up in the 80s too, and think Professor Turner said it best

"We Don't Need Another Hero"

Out of the ruins
Out from the wreckage
Can't make the same mistake this time
We are the children
The last generation
We are the ones they left behind

And I wonder when we are ever gonna change
Living under the fear 'til nothing else remains

We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond
The thunderdome

Looking for something
We can rely on
There's gotta be something better out there
Love and compassion
Their day is coming
All else are castles built in the air

And I wonder when we are ever gonna change
Living under the fear 'til nothing else remains

All the children say
We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond
The thunderdome

So what do we do with our lives
We leave only a mark
Will our story shine like a light
Or end in the dark
Give it all or nothing

We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond
The thunderdome

A cure? What is the last thing they have cured? They may create a treatment, something that continues to bring in a profit, something that curbs the sickness, but they do not make cures.

You mean "the science?"

Leaked DARPA documents showed that darpa knew ivermectin was a cure way back in early 2020.

It's over.

You have a point, but there are those of us who have lasting effects from covid that would quite gladly like to see a cure and more research done.

the hard part is realizing what part is "science" and what part is "propagandized government pseudo science". They are not the same, yet, indistinguishable to most through the media lens.

I understand, and even expected cynicism; but somehow, thought that the message would spur content, not the messenger.

So far I've heard a lot of denigration of science as a topic, and scientists as people.

When I speak of science, I'm not speaking of politics and political agendas. When I speak of those, I actually speak of those. And while I can accept that the pharmaceutical industry, and its attendant cabal of profiteers, are very likely disinclined to 'cure' diseases... these scientists seem to be seeking a cure. What will become of it, should it exist, is another matter entirely.

I understand cynicism, I just won't live it 24/7, lest I become a caricature of a conspiracy theorist. If I wanted to rail, whine, and be negative about everything, I would go elsewhere. It raises a big question. But that's as much off-topic as I would like to go.

I wonder, what studies have you done or taken part in to understand Ivermectin's role in covid relief? None? just going off what your handlers gut tells you? You have become a caricature of yourself.

We aren't abandoning science in other matters just the modern snake oil salesmen that sold the world that the vaccines were the cure and the only way to survive COVID. It's complete and utter BS, curing a problem that needs no cure. One that has an infinitesimally small death rate in everybody except those in their 70s or above and even that death rate was ballooned initially from the retirement homes fiasco.

Been said before, we have the continent of Africa are we gonna bombard them with this new Covid cure BS, when they have survived COVID just fine with a fraction of the population vaxxed?

We have dozens if not hundreds of illnesses and diseases that kill and affect so many more people but thank goodness they found a pathway to cure for this minor affliction that is COVID.

All things have a beginning.

What was done with the "novel" virus is not news. A solution is required whether it was done well or badly (even criminally) botched.

Do we start by not developing a cure? Will that be a step in our final response to this situation: don't research a cure? If so where does it belong?

COVID is caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, do we expect not to see variants and other related viral entities in the future? Shall we not research cures for those either?

Cutting our noses off to spite our faces... I suggest that would not be a winning strategy.
