You can fool some people sometimes but you can't fool all the people all the times, yet fool the right ones and the rest will fall in line...

You are what you eat -
What's the efficiency of a human body? If someone who is lactose intolerant consumes dairy does that mean they're screwed?

At the end of the day it gets dark -
Tell that to the Eskimos !

“that are completely false”

People did pick up on this part of the title right?
Seems like much confusion.
Just sayin….

I Have one that is completely false and so, so, so many are fooled by it!

“God helps those that help themselves.”

NO NO NO!

It really is, God helps those that trust, love and believe in Him.

The problem with sayings/idioms is we take them out of context and they really can't be applied to anything and everything.

It takes one to know one - context: to recognize the same type of person, such as a greedy person - personality type recognition.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger - an affirmation of resilience

Nietzsche expanded on the idea somewhat in his autobiography Ecce Homo, also composed in 1888. Here, he refers to select individuals as “nature’s lucky strokes…among men,” and says of such a person, “He divines remedies for injuries; he knows how to turn serious accidents to his own advantage; that which does not kill him makes him stronger.”

No pain, no gain - the only context I've ever known for this one was at the gym from my personal trainer. And so it began as a catchphrase from Jane Fonda's workout show.

Another one - "Killing two birds with one stone" -

This phrase dates back to the 1600s and references using a slingshot to bird hunt. Killing two birds with the same stone was virtually impossible, and the phrase was commonly used as a criticism for taking on too much, greatly increasing the likelihood of failure.

So you see it's all about the idiom's original meaning and it's context back then.

That expression is fairly accurate if you pair it with the old "success is 1% inspiration, 97% perspiration and 2% focus". Which one of those elements belongs to divine agency is up for debate.

Found this:

The term restroom came from the fact that in the early 1900s up-scale restaurants, theatres, and performing facilities would often have comfortable chairs or sofas located within or in a room directly adjacent to the actual toilet and sink facilities.

Also, I have had to try and find some people at work. They were hung over sleeping on the potty.

All for a paycheck.

God helps those that helps themselves contradicts the Bible.

There really is no debate here according to the Theologians.
This subject has been gone over, time and time again.
The statement rings false to me anyway.

Thanks for replying!

Hey, no pain no gain became a catchphrase in the '80s how people used it after that is what I am trying to make a point about - changing up how and when it is used changes the context - then can make it completely false, as in OP's thread title.

As for your scalloping woes, was the gain worth the pain?

I replied for fun, not to disagree.
I understood exactly where you were coming from.
I was offshore before the 80’s btw. 😁

As to wether Scalloping paid.
Not always, one trip in early Feb.1982 we sailed under Storm Warnings. Winds in excess of 50 knots never let go for 10 days.
Buzzards Bay froze solid that winter and The Cape Cod Canal was closed because of it.
Oh, the misery we suffered that trip.
My check after taxes, $94.93
I still have it somewhere, we never cashed it.

I sort of had the vibes you were kidding, and BTW I too have had those types of paychecks for way too much effort and body hurt.

"YOLO" aka "You only live once".

Until it's scientifically proven and peer reviewed, "a one-way ticket" as it pertains to life is literally the case, or shared consensus, amongst most of the populace.

However, it's been used as a means to carry out foolhardy acts under the guise that if you die doing a certain activity, there's some gained respect for taking unnecessary risks.

God forbid you don't document it somehow..🙄

It's the same, in some regards, to "nothing ventured, nothing gained".
