Before you do something stupid and go out blaming him for something illegal, consider that the trees you know about having cutting permission are the ones you had to agree and that's why you heard about these five permissions.

I am willing to bet money he has all the permissions but you just don't know it, because it's none of your business legally. I feel with you and I can relate but don't let your emotions cloud your objectivity here.

Mannen! Ze begrijpen ook niks!
Just some Dutch there as I know you're Belgian.

I would certainly be upset as well, not just the erased forest, but about the way it went so suddenly.
And they could have left some trees around the edge at least. My guess is he's a developer?
Cold and heartless

Nope, not a developer, he's planning on living here. he comes from the city, and I guess he thinks he moved to the suburbs, but he's going to find out pretty soon that he's a long way from all of that!
I'm so going to be there laughing when his car gets stuck in the mud on these dirt roads, or when the weeds and thistle takes over his entire land now that there is no more shade, or when trees block the roads, or they turn into an ice ring.... I had to learn all that and lucky for me there was no one on the side laughing.

He will likely rent the place out after living there maximum a year. I rent out properties, it's a known tactic. Live in the property for a year for tax deductions, and then rent it out.
Pleaseeee snitch on this a***hole

Likely not. I've heard about his type many times, they think they're above the law.
You could be right off course, but I highly doubt the city would oke this , as KindraLabelle had to agree to the city to leave forest land alone on her land when she moved there(reply from her earlier)

First, I'm not planning on blaming him or go over to city hall and snitch on him or anything like that. My husband is thrilled that the trees are gone and I'm not going to let this cause friction in my relationship

Over here in Belgium, all building related requests and permission are posted online and all immediate neighbors get an email with the link to view it and object it. I took another look earlier today and his permission includes the building plans, a drawing of the FIVE trees he has to cut (where the house is coming) and even a drawing with the remaining trees + five X marks where he must replace the trees.

If this is just him going against the plans, then things will clear themselves out when he gets an inspection. I assume he considered that and is planning to pay the fine he is going to get and get it over with.

Do you think the new owner will just build a house without permission? And do you think it will be a tree house or a house with a foundation?

And for that trees have to go, more than five probably. Again, I dislike destroying of nature too and just saying before doing anything or making accusations, Kindra should check if there are permissions she is not aware about before.

Where I come from? I had a building renovated around two years ago and faced similar neighbors that thought they are super smart about it (no offense Kindra) and burned their fingers. The reason in my case was tearing down a wall that they thought they can interfere with because they claimed it's a "border wall" and therefor I need their permission.

Because they feared their privacy and were used to it, did not like it that the wall removal, where they illegally built their shed "into", would subsequently disturb their peace. And so they went to the city for every "nuisance" they could find but were turned away every time because it was all legal and besides that, it was discovered that the actual border is around two and a half feet behind the wall and I could have claimed a piece of their garden legally.

They thought they were entitled to it. Not saying Kindra does but I am just saying, don't do stupid things and first check.

There are people like that, yes of course. I also understand you on the emotional side. Hopefully it will turn out good for both you and the new neighbors. First impression isn't always the clearest.

Right. On top of that, the building code for this area says that you can have a clear area around the house of 3 meters, and a soft drive in of 2 meters max. Everything else must remain forest. Officially you can't even have a garden shed (which I have) or any fences at all. You are not allowed to place a swimming pool, or a pond even (which I have as well) or plant any kind of tree, bush or plant that is not on an approved list. You can have chickens, but you can't have a chicken pen. And then there is a whole list of animals that you can or can't have because they could endanger the local wild life. And so on and on...

It's all about preserving forest and wildlife.

no offense taken

I started this rant early this morning and it's now after 9pm and I'm still going, lol
so yes, it bothers me very much and I'm feeling PO because of it. But the trees are gone and I can only hope that he will plant new ones, or that the city forces him to do it. If not then well, we'll see what it brings.

As I said above, I really know nothing at all about my soon to be new neighbor and I really hope that he is a nice guy because we probably will be neighbors for a long time.

(unless fire happens, sugar in the fuel tank, curses, forest spirits,...

Living out here in the woods, which is rapidly decreasing, has taught me that the last thing you want to do is bring is bring county or State officials into your lives. Everyone one suffers.

They are not going to drive all the way out there and be content with one single infraction. Before they are finished, they will find some tiny obscure thing on every single property out there.

It is all about the revenue, the money, and they are always looking for a way to separate you from yours.

Ride under the radar as long as you can. Once they have a reason to look for one infraction, they never stop.

We had 2- 100 foot double stem Douglas Firs in the back yard that got heat stressed and posed a danger. It made me sick to my stomach to have to have those beauties cut down last summer. The current Google image shows the fellers mid-job. We've lived here for 28 years and I love all the trees in my back yard. I only have 5 firs left, a couple dying Alders, a couple thriving Cottonwoods, and a fence of Western Red Cedars.

I totally understand how you feel, I like trees and I know what someone cutting trees on their property can cause to happen to the trees on my property. After they logged across the road, there were big trees falling everywhere up to where they quit logging because they altered the wind flow

I like our trees, they are not just timber, they are living beings sharing the land I live on with me.

Ride under the radar as long as you can. Once they have a reason to look for one infraction, they never stop.

Exactly what happened to me here! The neighbor started to make a fuss about the wall (that I politely gave them three month time to clear) and now they had to remove their shed and another one too that wasn't even subject, but they just built it and the Landratsamt (the office responsible) had them remove it because it was built without permission and snow load codes.

I face trouble every month whenever I do dyno days and had to install a muffled exhaust drainage system, because they forbid me to do dyno runs with open garage doors. The consequence was, that I only can do it with closed doors now but the exhaust fumes collect and the shockwaves from the fuel igniting at the exhaust tip rattle teeth and dust down from the ceiling onto everyone and everything.

Before, the doors were open and the fumes could escape, no problem. Then because of noise, they had me close the doors for these runs. Now thy dyno is not viable a lot when I have to do a run:

open the door drive car off from dyno
drive next car onto the dyno
close the door
rinse and repeat.

So I had to install a venting system to clear the fumes out of the building, also performance issues reingesting the o2 depleted air. Because I did that, the neighbors law twister now found some ruling and claims that I produce exhaust fumes in my building. The building is producing them now, not the car. So they wanted me to install a filter (!!) that clears the exhaust fumes. I had that done.

Fumes that every car on the road daily emits but because it's happening in a closed building, this is the rule. Now the neighbors, who built their home inside an outskirt industrial road because they wanted to seclude from neighbors, complain about:

garage door noises.
filtering system venting noises.

Almost every month when I did dyno days last year, the cops showed up. And they are very annoyed, because they have to show up when the neighbors call it. Here's how it now sounds when I do a dyno run, ears would pop if I didn't use oropax and the mickey mouse style ear protection on top of them. It's a lot louder than before. Also this

And the best of it all is, the garage now acts like a resonator making the noise even louder. Wait for second 18 it's terrible loud. And to be clear, these neigbors, only this one, because the rest is industrial shops and similar, made the decision to build their house into that industrial section of the town on their own. Nobody forced them to build their home here, where loud noises are expected.

I am surprised they received permission to build a residence in an Industriegebiet. That seems strange.

I wish for you to have a good neighbor, maybe he was just stressed and maybe next year after the build things calm down. First impression and all that.

They owned the place I now own. Rebuilt the office space into their home but the house is already built like a normal house, so it was planned upfront but cheating the system.

Now they don't like it i bought the building and the one's that took the measurings for secluding their current property from my property, #ed up and so therefor I could claim their carrots and stuff because their vegetable garden is on my side.

I told them it's going to be loud but they just saw the money.

Add/TLDR: I bought a little industrial hall and I wanted that little house too for myself. But they said they keep the house and sell the rest of the premise to not have to work anymore. So they had the premise cut in two different sized half and expected the wall to be their wall. But the wall had to go for other reasons, not out of spite from myself, and then it turned out the bureau that took the measurings made themselfes an easy job and using two preexisting border stones. The wall then landed on my side and before the buy I already said I would need the wall to be gone and it was the reason I then bought the industrial hall and the parking lot in front of it. They converted their side of the parking lot, behind that wall to a garden "to be faster than me" and also cheat/being dishonest, it seems and now they are angry.

They also complain when customers in the middle of the night pick up their stored race cars. And it's all totally fine legally but they keep making trouble. I offered them to buy the house meanwhile but they prefer to "stand their ground". All the other neighbors down the street where the town begines with normal housings are fine with what I do. I do BBQ once a year and everyone else comes to celebrate but not these two. They stand behind their curtains and watch with hawk eyes.

Last year I had BBQ and they called the cops because I gave out drinks and they thought I need a license for giving out drinks because they claimed it's a business even, that it wasn't and so therefor I would have needed a license. Non alcoholic drinks, from the box, take out your own style.

I live surrounded by trees, but they are cut away from the home. I've seen a couple instances where trees fall and did a lot of damage, so I would rather not have any sizable ones near the residence. Maybe he too thinks like this?
He may replant, and his vision may be something you can agree with.

It's just hard having a neighbor you don't get along with, especially when it sounds like your husband will while you may not. You may also find out that he's not so bad once you get to know him.

Just saying, it's a lot less awkward throwing up a wave everyday than it is the middle finger.

yes I know, better to get along then to fight. Been hearing that from my husband since he got home and found out I've been fighting with the new neighbor

(I did say in my OP that I felt I was going to go full Karen on him)

You're right that trees can be a hazard, but he cut down the WHOLE piece of land. Everything! And that was unnecessary.

I had a friend who purchased some land, and then had the trees cut down to sale to a lumber mill. He made enough money that it paid for the land. I wonder if that is what you’re seeing?

This was asked two pages back,
My house was build in the 70ties, I bought it 12 years ago. So personally I didn't take anything away or destroyed anything.

they probably did remove a couple of trees to build it back then, but they did not cut more then they needed to. The previous owner loved living IN nature.

If my new neighbor had only cut down the 5 trees that were needed to make room for his house, I wouldn't make a fuss about it, but he cut down around 30 trees. That is a huge difference.

I'm not going to poor sugar in his fuel tank... that was a joke.
I don't know if he's a nice guy or not, I have no idea if I can get along with him or even become friends/good neigbors, etc... maybe, who knows?
But he started off by clearly showing me that he has no respect at all for nature and that he doesn't care one bit about his neighbors... that's not a good start.
