Two years ago the land next to mine was sold, Forrest land. I saw the new owner once and he didn't say much, he was rude, weird, acted as if he didn't want anything to do with anyone. (which is fine by me, I rather have NO one living that close to me!)
Then last summer I received a notice from the city that he wanted to cut 5 trees that were close to my fence, asking if we had any objections to that. We didn't. The 5 trees were all old, sick pine trees and we always feared they would fall over during a storm.

So this morning at 6am I wake up to what sounds like WW4 right next to my house.... There were trucks and machines and people! (pls not people!!!) and the trees went down in minutes! All of them, not 5... ALL of them!
It is 10.30am now and he managed to remove a large piece of beautiful forest in just a couple of hours!

My husband is cheering because the extra sunlight is good for the solar panels...
But I feel sad....
I came to live here 13 years ago, IN a forest, because I wanted to live in nature, away from busy streets... and people, with NO neighbors! But in the last years more and more land gets sold in the area and they all cut down the trees and remove nature, to build ugly houses.

I know with certainty that he didn't get permission to cut down that forest! But it's to late now.... I can file a complained, and then he gets a fine, he pays it and that's it.
So next he is going to build a house, right next to mine! His land is big enough, why doesn't he build waaaaaay over there on the other side? Why right next to me??? He is so going to regret that! (I did object to the building plans because the house was to close, but legally he has the right to build it, so his plans were approved)

But most of all I feel sad for the wildlife....
That piece of land was home to families of Owls, crows, squirrels, rabbits and many more.... I know it sounds stupid to some, but when you live here for so long, you start to recognize the animals, see their offspring every year, and it feels like they got to know you as well and don't fear you as much as you would expect.
When a wild animal starts trusting you and almost come eat out of your hand, it is the most precious and beautiful thing!
and now they are gone......they fled, or died... pretty sure the hedgehogs that had their winter nest under the fallen leaves were crushed by the trucks and machines!

and I'm sitting here crying my heart out while cursing my new neighbor!
I don't know the guy but I already hate him!
intruder!
Destroyer of trees and animal territory!
Wildlife killer!
I wish him a house, haunted by the forest spirits to make his life a living hell!
I hope his house falls down on him, or catches fire and burns down to ground and nature will grow back from it's ashes!!!
I want my forest back!

Unfortunately I can't tell you what I would do, but I've seen buildings go up in flame during a nightly thunderstorm.

The house is not build yet, he wants it to be ready by the summer. But yes, thunderstorm fires do happen.....

How on earth is he going to build a house during the winter months? (with a little luck a brick falls on his head and he freezes to death while he's laying passed out in the mud!
)

They are done, the trucks are leaving.
They left a sad sight behind...

My husband doesn't get why this upsets me so much, but on the inside I am just RAGING!
If I go outside now and see that neighbor I'll probably go full blown Karen on him!

sooooo, I just closed the window shutters so I don't have to see it and go do something else and get it out of my system....

(meanwhile, any other idea on how to stop the intruder from building his ugly, soon to be haunted house, are welcome
)

I am like you. I love the trees, and we also moved to a suburban neighborhood that was built smack dab in the middle of the forest. My husband, unfortunately does not share my enthusiasm when it comes to the beauty of nature, and all he sees when he looks at a tree is another messy monster, spewing it leaves all over the place for him to have to clean up in the fall. He is a cutter of trees, and I too feel like crying each time I see another beautiful piece of nature gone.

The right pin missing on a construction yard can have devastating consequences... When you poor the concrete alot can go wrong.
i think there are some chemicals you can add to the water that totally tapers with the chemical reaction concrete makes... But that leaves some hard evidence.

Better rely on the forest spirit, you've made your stance known to authority and the internet, I'm guessing there aren't many people around that could be considered suspects, so if something happens they'll probably come knock on your door first...

My husband is the same as yours, only he never did any work in the garden or around the house... he just mumbles about the falling leaves every year, lol.
and I just leave them on the ground, only a small piece behind the house that I clean up. It's a forest, so let it be a forest

Point taken

I wasn't planning on personally going over there to burn down his house,
but I am counting on the cruelty of natural phenomena and hope it does the job for me

Without proof they can knock all they like.

It’s time to stand up to the “authorities” that will grant planning permission despite being lied to about just 5 trees being removed in the first place. I know of people that tried to live in harmony with nature that were evicted and left homeless because they didn’t get the right planning permission. Yet this guy wants to build for a profit no doubt and thinks he’s above the rules because he can pay the fine.

When are people going to say ENOUGH to rampant corruption everywhere?

Oh I felt your despair. I help you with your curse. Do it properly, curse the mofo, it has a good chance of working, especially whilst you feel genuinely pissed off.
Heck, I am angry and sad and I don't even know where you are in the world.
I will curse him too.

"May your neighbor's project never happen."

There, don't do specifics, let "them" find a way, you'll be surprised what they can do.
Hugs.

I've never understood why people would want to build houses so close together, especially when given the option. From a builders perspective, it can be easier with utility lines. Still, when I see lots of acreage with houses built close like city lots, ive walked away. No way I'm buying those lots. Build those houses in the center.

CONTINUING RANT

so this new neighbor just rang my doorbell,
while I walk to the gate he yells "well? what do you think?" (as if I should thank him!)
I say "well, it certainly is not a forest anymore!"
and he's like "well yeah, but it was necessary because all the tree had beetles that kills them"
(he's talking about a beetle called 'Ips typographus' and I know for a fact that it only infests pine trees, not the oaks and other trees he just cut!) but he says he had permission and he has it on paper.
well ok then..... I'm keeping my mouth shut.

Then he says that he had to cut down my Laburnum (golden rain) because it was growing in one of the trees he cut, so he removed it completely (went to check and he cut it off just above the ground!)
Then he goes on about how all my ground cover plants are 'invasive' and he removed everything that was on his land, including the roots, so he hopes it were not the roots of the plants that were growing against the side of my house.... (I hope for his sake that they were not!) and he thinks I should really remove all of it. (and that is never going to happen!)
Then, he says that the fencing and wired fences are old and that he wants to replace them with 'something' and if maybe we are willing to share in the costs for it? (nooooope! we are not willing!)
I say "yeah, maybe we can plant trees? or high bushes? so we don't have to look inside each others windows all day when your house is done?" He's like "but then it's going to be aaaall trees again" (yeah, that's the point ass****)

I think he gets that I am not happy with what he's done and that we are never going to become friendly neighbors.

He just doesn't get it. Those trees protected against weather conditions. They give shelter during heat waves, and during cold waves. The ground cover keeps the soil from drying out during droughts, and they make the ground soak up water during flooding.

I'm sure he and I are not done talking just yet! We'll see...

If you've read this far, thanks for listening, i'm done now

He bought the land because it was cheap, because he knew upfront that he could build on it whatever he wanted.

3 years ago another guy did the same thing a few miles further, he bought cheap land in a forest, cut down everything, build a huge house on it, complete with underground fuel storage, water reserve, underground garage, full domotica inside, etc... he lived there for a year and then sold it with HUGE profit. Now there are new people living there, they come from the city and I know they feel very much out of place here.... the wife and children are always complaining about bugs and dirt and the smell of manure that the wind blows this way when the farmers are working their fields. Their kids are still terrified at night because of the sounds the owls make. LOL

What I don't get is this,
When we first moved here, we didn't get permission to live here, we weren't even able to register our address. Then years later the city gave us permission, but with a whole lot of conditions. One of them was to 'preserve the forest and the wildlife'
go figure....

Don't give me ideas! lol

his propane tank is going to be underground, and the pipe to fuel it will have a lock on it.
mine is above ground and I can't open it myself, only the gas company and the fire department can.

I can only imagine the destruction and horrific slaughtering of wildlife when your house was built.
But you are entitled to have a house where you want it, right?
And if the house was already there when you purchased it, you are supporting the destruction of the forests by buying it.

I wasn't implying anything when I said I'd walk away. After house shopping for so long, I kept coming across these multiacre lots that had houses built 50ft or less from each other. It blew me away.

It is strange that you had so many limitations and you're new neighbor was able to alter the land. Maybe the city has decided to develop the area. We are facing something similar in our area. Fortunately, we have a train track near by that has a 100 ft easement, so that'll keep new neighbors a distance away.
