Before my edit to my initial comment, I also gave a reason why I thought* that Argentina would beat France in the final to win the WC (*: from a marketing perspective). My initial comment was before the France-England match.

It's high time for a WC winner that isn't from my list on page 19. For a bit of variation.

I know....after serious reconsideration and no small amount of self-torture I have to rescind that.
I just can't bring myself to say it with any serious conviction or degree of honesty.

I am going to go into complete isolation the whole of Sunday and possibly Monday too in an attempt to escape from my worst possible nightmare scenario.

No-one mate.
0-0 bore draw....then a mass melee and 6 players from each side get sent off and the game gets abandoned.

However, I think France are the better side - they are a very good side if I'm being honest - but Argentina have something about them.
Too close to call.

It has the makings of a good game of football.

Honestly....I don't care.

I do think Mbappe is the best player in the world at present and France have no obvious weaknesses.
But Argentina will be hard to break down, are incredibly motivated....and of course Messi is still more than capable of moments of 'greatness'.

Looking at it from a purely footballing point of view it has the makings of a great game of football....I've got to be honest though and admit I'd struggle to watch it and appreciate it purely for the football alone.

Who knows, I may cave in and try to watch it tomorrow?

You're right, it could well be a great game. It sure has all the makings for it.
Im hoping Messi has the game of his life and they win it. It would put to bed the who's the greatest of all time. Both Pele and Maradona have won it. Messi has to win it to be in that group.

I've just seen the headline "Falklands costs English referee World Cup Final".

I would have thought that an Englishman could have been trusted to be equally hostile to both countries.
