We must address the public health epidemic of gun violence in all of its forms. Earlier this year, I signed the most significant gun safety law in nearly three decades, in addition to taking other historic actions. But we must do more. We need to enact an assault weapons ban to get weapons of war off America’s streets.

In the USA, heroin is so illegal that a doctor can’t even prescribe it.
A person can buy some within a short walk from their home in urban/suburban areas.
You don’t need an ID and the is no minimum age requirement.
People that break laws exist and will continue to exist.
Restricting the rights of the innocent accomplishes nothing but restricting freedom.

Banning AR-15s which are semi automatic is not going to address this societal problem. It would be like trying to hide drugs or isolate someone from alcohol who is an addict or alcoholic.
