in an EV if the electronic switch is always high at the gate, you're #.

Surely the gate would be switched and have a (Pull Down Resistor)? to ground for an E stop situation?

I don't do electric vehicles other than 48 volt golf carts lol

Or do you mean like when mosfets fail high and have full speed.....that would make more sense in context.

Yeah but it's not galvanic disconnect. It's just the gate stopping the angry electrons. If it arcs it will establish a Lichtbogen (a permanent arc) and you can not kill it because it's direct current. It will be there and even if the part burns away, the air is ionized enough to keep it going.

Alternating current like in your house supply goes through a zero point 50x a second, DC not.

And if the control unit keeps telling the gate to stay open, you have the above problem. You would need a huge DC capable switch that can also kill the standing arc.

Yes, I am not good in electronics but I had a basic physics and electro course for my master. MOSFET was the word I was looking for.

And the mosfet was the high current capable switch that replaced physical hardware switches. How fun, a circular problem

I think you are just being humble.

I love this series and have watched it so many times.

Ruth Goodman is a true expert. So much of an expert on Victorian times that some believe she might be a time traveler.
She just knows things, and in a way that is so intimate. The series is funny, educational and kinda shows how life would revert if tshtf.

Considering that you only have a tiny window to look out and the helmet + HANS on, bouncing around, this must be really scary. The driver of that run, Timo Bernhard said there was still a bit reserve for more and they were actually even faster (hope I do not mix up two projects here) but it was not officially clocked.

He beat a several decade old record. I am sure this one will stay for a while too.

Thanks for the vid mate - off to watch!

Did you ever see this rather bizarre 'turkey circle' (around a dead cat) - I honestly don't know wtf is going on lol.
