I can give you hard truth or soft lies.
Both are free, but only one is worth anything.
Sometimes it isn't that nobody wants to offer advice, but as in the case of the thread you referenced, I saw no avenue for me to give you anything of
value.
You're frank though, which is good and if you remain genuine then people will notice. There's lot of flow through traffic. Tourists with agendas,
people that come exclusively to fight, sockpuppets with nine lives, spammers, and an occasional messiah I don't dare to summon by naming (a spam
Messiah).
It is quite difficult to find people without fairly unipolar views in the active topics. Discussion largely stopped in the past few years and it's
mostly sides taking no account of the individuals they're responding to, just blind lamentations against the evil other. It gets tedious and a lot of
people have likely given up trying to occasionally engage others as humans. It's not just unipolar views, but dogmatic and inflexible views. When
there is no give there is no point in discussion. Eventually, the return on value just isn't there.
To me it's occasionally still worth the extra effort.
This kind of nonsense doesn't happen in person. People would get slapped around for the kind of disingenuous things they pull and they simply wouldn't
do it. In real life, when I say the things that here are often miscatogorized as anger, people are laughing. Things are different divested of the
screen. Confronted in real life with the absurdity of our own unchallenged and pooly considered positions you laugh or you look like an idiot. People
know their absurd bipolar position on nearly identical issues doesn't make sense to say out loud. People that speak with highly biased language in
real life are idiots with very little to offer. They substitute all their politics for a personality and it doesn't work. That's Internet junk and for
most normal people.
So, don't lose heart. Get co-opted, get de-opted, just keep opting until something works. It's not all blank space behind all these screens. There are
still some people watching and occasionally pretending to be grown-ups. It easier to ignore everybody forever than admit one of them is right and that
will continue to be the path many take.
I don't even know if this is on topic really, but when in doubt the little bit of effort usually wins the day.
