Knowing how the United Nations was originally set up, I would be surprised if the Constitution allowed for the possibility of removing their Permanent Membership. The whole point was to keep the major allies of 1945 unassailable, even from each other.

If they remove Russia they will go after China.
Truss had being clear on the objective.

So essentially, most of the world just formally rejected Russia's annexation, and those territories will not be recognized as part of Russia. Now some might argue that this is just a formality, but it IS important. It is a worldwide wake up message to Putin that no, he can't just go claiming territories with sham referendums any time he pleases. Makes for messy map making

Lots of messy maps around in different places on this planet Earth. It's all about whose boots are on the ground in reality. Israel in the Golan Heights, Turks in northern Cyprus, etc, some countries don't recognise them, tell that to the occupiers and their boots on the ground

Promoting more level headed approaches and less potentially catastrophic decisions doesnt make someone a Russia lover

But that requires the same level headed approach from both sides.
As far as I can tell one side is saying retreat to the previously agreed borders and we'll talk.
The other side is saying stop defending your country, agree to all our demands and we'll talk.

Whilst the first may seem unrealistic to many it is understandable and kind of reasonable.
They second is in effect a demand for a surrender.

Of course most of us want to see a more pragmatic and diplomatic approach but both sides seem quite belligerent...for quite different reasons.

Because someone opposes laying over and letting Putin bully and intimidate doesn't make one a Russian hater.

I remember when a lot of the people on here werent dead set on WW3 and possible Nuclear annihilation

I agree people are possible drooling and salivating at the mouth over the nightmare prospect.

But I also remember when people were prepared to stand up for their principles, be consistent in applying those principles and stand up in the face of injustice, intimidation and blatant hostile aggression.

Appeasement does not work; never has and never will.
Would you have Ukraine/NATO etc just acquiesce to all of Putin's demands because like the petulant bully he is he has threatened to throw a few nuclear warheads around because he can't get his own way?
If 'we' do do you honestly think he'll stop there?

We have truly stepped into backwards world

Indeed.....in more ways than one.
But the echoes from the build up to WWII are alarming....yet people still want to repeat the same mistakes over and over again.

As for this vote; its a clear indicator of the scale of opposition to Putin.
The thing is; what to do?

The UN really is a bit of a toothless tiger.

Plain as day the majority of the civilized world condemns Putin's actions in Ukraine.

Time for Russia to go back home and think again.

Not that i imagine Putin and his ilk will see it that way.

Well it did not bode to well for the last mob of Nazi scum in the previous century, winter that is.

Take what they get really if they are daft enough to remain.

www.spectator.co.uk...

Truss regards China as a threat, which it is.

Never said about going after China far less removing it and anyway, what does that even mean?

Truss is the most incompetent PM I can remember.

She won't be PM much longer.

I hope.
