The link said it was 150 dead birds they were fined for?

The average American family would eat that much meat in a family sized buckets in under a year at a guess?

Around the same number that are born due to the chicken farming industry.

He's talking about wild birds.

Aye, but, but, wind turbines cause cancer and all those dead bird graveyards.

Eagles and other sorts of birds that are not typically grown on a farm, or eaten at the dinner table, the way the US packs windmills in on land is wreaking havoc on the migration patterns of certain birds.

Also just woke so could be very wrong, I thought I read or heard not to long ago that Europe was having an issue with wind speeds being unusually low.

Its not something that I ever considered but seems like something that should be tracked and understood before depending on it... if I am remembering correctly.

That's why I said that nuclear should be a big part of a fossil fuel free future.

There's a place for wind and a place for solar or hydro.

Just sticking things all over the place willy nilly is not the way forwards.

Meh, thats a US law and I'm English.

Funny how laws are more important when they suit yur narrative.

THe US factory farms and hunts animals like nobody's business.

For people in the US, the penalty for killing a Bald Eagle or Golden Eagle is $5,000 and up to a year in prison.
Second offense is $10,000 and 2 years in prison.
This is why we don’t think a for profit corporation should be allowed to kill them by the hundreds.

Yeah I get that the eagle is a bit special to you guys but I do think it's a bit hypocritical when you look at some of the animal welfare standards that have been allowed due to all those lobbyists in US industry.

Nuclear is the only realistic means we have at our disposal that will meet anywhere near the sort of future energy demands.

Unless fusion materializes, fission reactors are what's required.

Possibly an idea to go with the likes of thorium reactors over the conventional sorts all the same.

It's always 10 to 20 years down the line all the same.

Fusion power that is.

I mean it can be done, but maintaining a net gain in energy is the key.

Better material science and more powerful/accurate means of magnetic confinement being the requirement.

Yeah it's been 20 years away since I was a kid at least and I'm 45.

Wind and solar are at best a top up rather than a replacement unless efficiency is dramatically improved, fusion is the best idea we have to help us out of the dirty mess we've made.

We still have a long way to go and in many places they are starting out wrong with some idea we can cut out fossil fuels tomorrow. Its like if back when cars were invented everyone shot their horses 30 years before the car finally took over. Green energy is still a joke right now, but give it 100 years and it will be much better. I like the idea of energy from tidal power and we have not even tapped into geothermal power like they do in Iceland.

I have said for like the last 20 years that the greatest innovations will be in energy storage and not so much production. We are just seeing the start of that. What is interesting is back around 1900 my family had a small water mill setup in a year round flowing creek and that charged batteries and then the house was powered from the batteries. I wonder if a Tesla battery bank could do the same with solar and wind.

And with how many fish/birds die due to oil tanker spills or pipe rupture.

The UK has had a huge boom in Sea Eagles, Golden Eagles, Red Kites, Osprey and other birds despite being the world leader in offshore wind and generating more than half of electricity via wind power.

I guess the US are building them on nesting grounds if they're having an impact over there?

I'm still not rich so I'm not gonna help solve the world's problems. I mean I could but I won't because of that reason! All of this green energy tech that has been invented so far is really quite primative to me! 🧐

Ewe windmills.
They literally pepper our entire state, often don't move and are a giant subsidy and "make work" scam run by riggers like Warren Buffet.
....Pretty similar to ethanol fuel.

Oh, this one is only 700ft diameter?
Yeah, hard pass

You grew up with 3 coal fired generation plants within 8 mile radius. Could you tell us the impact on your or anyone's health while they were operational? A rational guess from me would be none.

Those that shout for nuclear, wait for a plant near you especially if it goes Chernobyl/ 3 Mile Island. Don't say it wont happen, accidents will always happen. The crap from Chernobyl got as far as Wales. Well they told us then not to eat Welsh lamb because of contamination, but what they didn't say was to get to Wales it had to go over the whole of England. But then again it was clever fall out as it didn't want to fall in England. And don't get me going on the disposable of spent fuel rods.

The problem is wind turbines kill birds, animals, and destroy the environment.

It's been proven that painting one blade of a wing turbin a different color reduces bird deaths by over 90%, yet that seems to be too much additional cost for manufacturers to absorb.

Where's Greta Turnberg, aka Angry Beaver, when you need her?
