In a very sad and shocking development, Kyiv city council has started distributing potassium iodide pills to the public, the objective being to mitigate cancer causing effects of radiation on the thyroid after exposure to radiation/radioactive fallout from a nuclear strike.

twitter.com...

And in a related development, Russia's newest nuke sub, Belgorod, has left port for destination unknown
www.wionews.com...

There is still time for a peaceful negotiated settlement of the Ukraine issue, but this window may be rapidly closing.

It would appear warmongers on this forum may get their wish.
Enjoy !

I can think of only one warmonger in all of this. I wonder if the U.S. will give Ukraine a nuke missile - having nukes = having power.

Belgorod was scheduled to be used in an experimental role with the Northern Fleet, then move to the Pacific. It's set up as their equivalent of the Jimmy Carter, and designed to do special missions work. That was as of two months ago.

Maybe instead of worrying about warmongers on ATS you should be worrying about the warmongers in Russia that launched an illegal invasion of Ukraine.

We'll hope this is just a military exercise, unlike the "military exercise" in February that turned into an invasion.

The population of Kiev is roughly 3 million. If Russia was to drop a nuke or multiple nukes, There would be catastrophic ramifications for this at an unpresident level. Imagine the ramifications. Modern day security council member nuking a neighbor. There would not just be sanctions, you would see NATO moving into Ukraine, destroying the Russian military along the border, entering Belarus and locking the border with Russia while demanding russia be completely isolated. We are not talking sanctions, we are talking embargo, and an embargo on all those that align with them, it would diametrically seperate the world into two spheres, one willing to deal with Russia and one that is not. This would have issues for Brazil, for China, for India, and all the Russian allies. Imagine if the USA and Europe cut all trade with China and India. Their economies would tank, for brazil, if all the agriculture didn't go to the USA or Europe, what happens. Global trade allows all nations to grow richer, when you cut of a part, everyone suffers. Not only that, but this could very quickly escalate into Nuclear exchanges, especially if Russia hit NATO or NATO troops with nukes. This would not go well at all.

As far as the Sub, not worried about it. it can hit a cost city, but realistically, doing so we are in WW3 anyway, and every city is done.

The other idea is if Russia drops a nuke somewhere that is relatively empty in Ukraine. the Radiation would impact kiev, but you don't have the loss of life. If that were the case, what then. Ukraine will not capitulate, and now NATO puts a no fly zone on Ukraine, and also ramps up more sanctions and sends more weapons. Not good.

I think its just politics, Ukraine trying to show that they will not go quietly in the night and preparing for Russian stupidity so that can say send more weapons.

as an aside, if NATO took Belarus and Ukraine, and armed the border with Russia, even going south and taking the land along the Black sea, can you imagine China using it as an opportunity to take all of Siberia. Russia would have to defend against NATO and would not be able to counter China, china gets vast land and resources and they get them with the Wests blessing.

You could see Turkey moving through Georgia north, Ukraine pushing Directly East, and NATO supplying Ukraine and clearing the field while China moves North East and North West.

Heck Mongolia might take a shot at it and Move north as well as Kazakstan, there is some nice land they could both us, since both are deserts.

Launching a nuke at Kyiv, Kiev, that has fallout would be suicide.

Prevaling winds are a thing.

So far Putin is just threatening a nuclear strike, what would you have biden do?

Rather than passing out iodide they should be sitting down at a negotiation table like the adults in the room are suggesting...

Besides how really effective will iodide be for the people with front row seats to the end of the world?

No... no, there is not. The die is cast. Hades comes.

It comes not for Ukraine or Russia. Watch Romania.

Youre funny.

If there has been ANY attempt at resolution from our govt, id love to see it. So far, just taxpayer money feeding the death machine.

I didn’t mean to imply there were, in fact I think mr Biden doesn’t seek a peaceful resolution right now.
That doesn’t change the fact the position he occupies has been called the leader of the free world.
I missed any attempt to rally such to press peace.
