I use to drive hours to attend seminars on Bible prophecy and studied many prophecies of other religions. Even found Sri Sathya Sai Baba fit about 10 prophecies from the Bible and fit about 40 prophecies from various other religions. After hearing the world is going to end every couple of months since the 1960's, when do you say..."probably ain't happening?"

When a man shows-up raising the dead, materializing both animate and inanimate objects, bi-located, and any other of the numerable "miracles" that people have been awaiting, when do you say maybe all religion is simply wrong and it's time to think for myself?

Don't worry you won't be going there. So be happy.

As a Christian I can only hope that since the bible says hell is total separation from God that it means total annihilation of your soul and you'll know nothing. Total nothingness is what I hope for you since you have rejected God totally. I don't think you'll mind that.

you choose oblivion or the dimension of hell, and I choose another dimension with a new heaven and a new earth. Personally I prefer heaven to oblivion, but that's me, and I really hope for your sake that oblivion is what happens to you.

THIS is the kind of 'Christian' hypocrisy that is turning people away from God. Sitting in judgement of your fellow man and wishing them harm is against everything that ever came from the mouth of Christ.

Religious zealotry now fills and corrupts organized religion. The only way I can possibly imagine Jesus Christ being in ANY church today would be with a whip in his hand and an admonishment to His true believers to get the hell out.

Matthew 7:2 New International Version
For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Wishing misery on others brings that misery back to oneself.. So many zealots 'talk the talk' but can't/don't/won't walk the walk. Maybe when the 'mote' has grows so large it infects ones heart?

My favorite adage: Going to church doesn't make one a Christian anymore than standing in a garage makes one a car.

Christianity. Just another death cult.

You won't be chanting that after death from a good place. More like wailing and gnashing of teeth.

It was a reaction to the inevitable trolling of the thread, but if you are a believer, what are the options for someone who persists in turning their backs on God.

I agree with the premise that annihilation of the soul into nothing would be a more merciful fate than the often threatened eternal torture in hell.

I have 'read his word'!! That's why I quoted the Genesis verse about Abraham!!!

That is literally an account of God making a plan and then changing His mind, because Abraham petitioned for mercy on behalf of others (intercessory prayer)...

If God could 'change His mind' back in Abraham's day, don't you think He could still do so today?

It's been about 4,000 years since the days of Abraham, and 2,000 since Jesus - it seems 'possible' to me that maybe God has had a better idea for what He wants heaven to 'be like' since then...

"with God, all things are possible.", Mathew 19:26

DO NOT make the mistake of thinking that all adherents to religious principles and/or those who choose to use them as guides in their spiritual journeys do NOT think for themselves.

There are many who adhere to scientific paradigms as religous adherents too who DO NOT think for themselves. Some do, many don't. Not thinking for themselves is a human condition that has to be trained out, sometimes at a very high cost.

Ostracization by society, being ridiculed, looked down on, etc. While I consider myself a Christian, there is not a single thing that I believe that isn't based on a rational evaluation of all available evidences.

God is omniscient, he doesn't "change" his mind. He knew that Abraham would petition for it and knew what the end result would be. He may appear to change his mind from our perspective, but by definition, He can't change his mind. It is already changed/set.

If the majority of souls that was born here was the caliber of:
Yeshua
Siddhartha Gautama
Nanak
Socrates
Plato
Nikola Tesla
then humanity would evolve very quickly. That would be quite interesting.

But that do not seem to be the plan right now since we are stuck with souls like:
Joe Biden
Donald Trump
Hillary Clinton
Obama
George w Bush
Nixon
Putin
Xi Jinping
Rothschild
Rockefeller
Bill Gates
Anthony Fauci

For those who wanna play a guessing game. What souls group would you put these souls:
1 Elizabeth II
2 Gandhi
3 Muhammed
4 Paul

Are they among the wise Ones or the manipulating Ones?

Great Post. This is what the Original Church also believes to a degree.

Meeting in the Air can be looked at through the lens of Fatima and Garabandal's Warning.

if you want to debate the rapture start a thread on it and I'll be happy to participate.

Isn't that what this thread is? I mean Rature is in the title isn't it, in a discussion forum?

its a thread for Christians to discuss Christian issues
non-Christians that just want to shade should stay out.

('Rapture' with a 'p')

This thread mostly leans in favor of Fundemental/Protestant teachings, do Catholics not count as Christians in your mind?

My debate on this thread is in regards to Premillennialism, Postmillennialism and Amillennialism in Christianity.

of course Catholics are Christians.

did I imply otherwise?

The word rapture is never used once in The Bible.

In fact, the rapture concept is relatively new and is a product of bad theology.

The idea of a rapture emerged in the 1830’s.
John Nelson Darby was the first to teach and introduce this idea to his congregation. He is the founder of the group later known as The Plymouth Brethren. They were conservative, nonconformist Protestants who broke away from the Church of Ireland.

if they weren't expecting a rapture in the Biblical era
why did Paul find it necessary to reassure the Thessalonians that Jesus hadn't come yet?

OOOOH, pointing out a typo, how, academic of you.

And I was born into a Freewill Baptist family and was Baptised in 1982. So I am what you would call, a backslider.

However, my life experiences have led me to believe that all I was taught was just a bunch of hooey designed to keep me skared and sub-servient to a Church only interested in my money.

so if you don't believe in the Bible and Christianity
why are you in this thread criticizing those who do believe?

I believe in the second coming of Christ. Just my thoughts but because I think Christ returns a second time (at the end) I don't think the rapture happens until after the tribulation. I think we are at the start of tribulation. Just my thoughts

They did. But post trib for the most part. Not pre or mid.

ETA:

On the phrase “meet him in the air”

“The conclusion is that in 1 Thessalonians 4:17 the noun "meeting" (apantesis, 529), and its related cognate verb and noun, in and of themselves, cannot be used either to prove that the saints are a welcoming party who escort Jesus back to earth, or that they accompany Him back up to heaven. Other factors must determine what happens next after this meeting in the air“
