Steve Bannon indicted for money laundering, conspiracy in border wall case

NEW YORK, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Steve Bannon, a onetime top strategist to former U.S. President Donald Trump, has been indicted on money laundering and conspiracy charges in connection with Trump's effort to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Bannon, 68, was charged in an indictment made public on Thursday with two counts of money laundering, three counts of conspiracy and one count of scheming to defraud.

He was accused of defrauding donors in what prosecutors have described as a private $25 million fundraising drive, known as "We Build the Wall," to help build the former Republican president's signature wall.

This isn't a surprise to anyone that's been following the news for the past few days. It was announced the other day that Bannon had been indicted and he had until today to turn himself in.

Bannon had previously been indicted on these charges at the federal level but thanks to a last minute pardon by Trump, the case never went to court. That means nothing at the state level however, and New York has chosen to go forward with their own charges.

It should be noted that one of the men named as Bannon's co-conspirators and CEO for the charity, Brian Kolfage has already pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud conspiracy and tax evasion charges. I will not be surprised if the prosecution calls him as a witness.

This is obviously a developing story and it may be a few days before there's any kind of major updates.

A jury on Friday found former Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon guilty on two counts of contempt of Congress for blowing off the House Jan. 6 committee.

Bannon’s sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 21 when he will face a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 30 days and up to one year behind bars. He could also be fined $100 to $100,000. He is expected to appeal.

This is not that. This is a money laundering and fraud charge, for ripping off Trump supporters who donated cash to "Build the Wall".

This is what Trump pardoned Bannon for, federally. Now, NY State is charging him.

Biden's DOJ-DHS really wanted that money for the wall!

Seriously, it's an HONOR to be indicted by any authority ran by Biden or Democrats.

Bannon gets double honors. He was also indicted by the DOJ a few months ago for giving the Jan6th commission the middle finger.

That indictment set the stage for future indictments of Democrat Civilians, when Republicans are in control of the House.

I have often wondered whether Bannon is guilty or not if the same level of focus, manhours spent, hard line indictments with strong convictions follow through, consistent reapplying the charges from the fed level down to the state, in unrelenting events that stretches on for years, what it would look like if the top100 liberals were put under the same microscope.

I know this sounds like a whataboutism, but holy hell if 1% of what the left does to the right was applied back at them a lot of liberals would be either removed from office or behind bars.
