Ive not had anyone try and stop me growing stuff or prohibit me buying seeds of any sorts.

I noticed here that our main nursery had limited seeds this year. Normally there are two aisles (8 section like 4 grocery rows) of nothing but seeds. This year it was whittled down to 2 sections!!!!!! In that section it looked like a lot of seeds but they were just repeats of the same package (mostly burpee)

It's just you or your area. I happen to have had the best vegetable garden season that I've ever had. My lima beans are getting ready to give me my 3rd harvest. And even though it's been 90 all summer here I got some brussel sprouts to grow. Which I'm sure you know sprouts are a cool weather plant.

I'm having no problem with my seeds. And there not heirloom seeds ether. Just generic gmo stuff I got off amazon.

Besides some poor planning/experimenting on my part and the rabbits decimating some of my crop and early hail that required me to replant some tomatoes it hasn't been bad. The last 2 years have been historic in terms of lack of rain so its a little out of the ordinary but I am keeping stuff watered and at this point it has been successful.

I was thinking of it last night while picking some tomatoes and I haven't planted much different flowers etc this year and I have noticed more bumblebees than before but have also noticed a lot less dragon flies. The dragon flies could be attributed to it being dry and not many mosquitoes to eat.

I'm curious where you are located. Also very weird about the brussel sprouts (which btw I absolutely love, a little olive oil, garlic and bacon and crisped in the oven!!

Seems like some crops are thriving outside of their normal season.. In most normal years a cool crop would bolt or dry up during such hot spells.

I initially thought this but I've been seeing it everywhere. It really isn't.

I'm growing everything you listed just fine. Except the peas. But I can never get split peas to grow for some reason.

Might be to do with supply issues JAGStorm.

Ive not noticed anything out of kilter in our garden centers which seem to be about as adequately stocked as any other year seed and plant wise.

I would say they seem to be stocking a lot more garden furniture than normal, but i just put that down to us having some good whether as of late, to good for some, especially where our English cousins down south are concerned.

at the opposite end of this isle to you, in the bit just before getting your feet wet going to the continent my raspberry's and strawberry's have been rubbish this year the local blackberries though are thriving as are the local vineyards..

It feels like some crops are more stressed than others, though we probable need at least another dry year down here in the south to balancer on the wet from 2015 its still not filtered back to the sea and many places are still susceptible to groundwater flooding (mine included)

down here we need at least another dry year to balance out wet 2015, we've a long way to go to get to the dry year of the ladybird in 76 which had a dry decade proceeding it...

Its been a right weird growing season thus far on my end.

You might have a point as to the water table, as you lot got skelped good and proper with flooding not that long ago whilst Boris was hiding in a fridge.

Jumping onboard with a hard Agreement.
We planted our (native to Colorado environment/heirloom ) tomato, cucumber, lettuce and other seeds maybe late June early July. And at this time a year or two ago they would have been super tall, super lush, and they are all tiny, stunted, and in some cases (flowers) did not even germinate! My wife blames it on the heat being way more intense. It is burning the cucumber leaves. And after all this time the tomatoes instead of being like 3 to 5 feet tall are 1 foot or less.......

Furthermore, the produce you buy at the supermarket, Especially the fruit, is ripening weird. It's either soft on the outside but unripe on the inside, or already shriveling and drying up without truly ripening. The only normal produce I have seen is cucumbers and lettuce from the market ,but the fruit and a lot of the other veggies like thyme are all wilty.

south carolina up the hills.

It is weird about the sprouts but so far the sprouts themselves are tiny. I honestly don't expect them to get any bigger.

My peppers are growing like crazy though. scotch bonnet and wax. the tomatoes are also growing like I've never seen. The one plant is a about 6 feet tall right now. I've got sunflowers that are 7 plus feet tall. the melons are doing fine and the peanuts. I've been pulling potatoes out of the ground for two months now. All of my lily's died in the heat but the wild flowers are thriving. And surprisingly my sunchokes which are basically an invasive species are not growing well. My guess it's the heat. Oh also my mom just through a bunch of cucumber seeds in the ground and got a ton of the biggest cucumbers I've ever seen! We have 20 mason jars full of them now and more to harvest.

That rules you out and to be honest from the way you talk I didn't think it was your fault. But it doesn't rule out the change in climate that's happening all over. Last winter here had it's first snow in 50 years and the heat we are experiencing is also something all the old timers are telling me is abnormal.

Jag, I am in Wisconsin (I think I remember that is were you are too). We have outstanding soil here. I have been gardening for years too and mine is failing this year too. Asktheanimals mentioned 5G and I think that might be the case. I watched a video where a Middleschool Science teacher did an experiment with his class about the effects of 5G on plant growth. I can't remember where I saw it but the results were shocking. I haven't been up to see the Amish yet this summer. I wonder how their gardens are going.

here's some info that might matter.

All my seed packs are super old. I bought hundreds of them 5 years ago. So nothing I'm growing is coming from a recent batch of seeds. I've been using the same bag of old peanuts even longer than that. But this year I think is the last for those. I planted 30 of them and only 5 grew. But those 5 are growing normally.

I've been trying to grow venus flytraps with no luck even though I live in the area they grow wild in. Even when I buy them already growing they just die.

I blame the heat.

Lol if anyone is wondering why i grew sprouts in the wrong season it's because i didn't know they were sprouts. lose seeds I had just planted them to see what they would do.

The heat burned my peanut leaves. I had to cover them to save them. but after they got half shade during the day they perked right up.
