I turn 40 tomorrow, on July 19th.
For some reason the come up to this day has really been bothering me for the past half a year.

I don’t feel my age.
I don’t dress my age.
I have a full head of thick hair. Ialways get my hair dresser to thin out my top piece because my head sweats from my hard hat.
I don’t even think I have a reseeding hairline.

I get told I look like I’m 30. So I don’t look my age.
Hell, up until I was 38 I would get asked for my ID when buying smokes.
But under my hat, I would have grey hairs coming in lol.

I’m sitting here thinking jeeze I’m 40 years old tomorrow. Where has time gone.
Why do I feel like I have imposter syndrome?

Anyone else ever go through that?
You just don’t feel your age?

Most people start to act mature around 40. Some people take longer. Some 80-year-olds still act like whiny-nosed brats. Go figure.

I'm a lot older than you are

I don't feel or look my age. Although my knees complain from time to time if I sit too long in one position.
I credit good genes, and taking care of my skin. I used Oil of Olay in my 20s FFS.
The products have changed, but I still moisturize and hydrate.

Congrats on the Milestone!!!!!

Absolutely! In my mind I'm still late 20's-early 30's, but my body disagrees. I refused to listen until a slight bump or stumble began resulting in broken bones.

I was talking to my Ma about it last night.
She said once she turned 40, it was the best time of her life.
I’m hoping for the same.

I absolutely abused my body and organs my whole life, fire, accidents, lost digits, numerous surgeries, and scars. I felt fine till I hit my 50s. Then all hell broke loose, now it seems Im putting out health fires constantly. But Ive lost enough weight where I don't need my BP meds, only drink on special occasions dropped nicotine, etc. found CBD and other helpful concoctions that seem to help me. So for me, I'm better at 53 than I probably was at 45.

Oh BTW happy birthday

That's a good thing. I'm 21, with 32 years experience.

Thanks DToM!

I don’t have wrinkles either.
And my face used to get weathered when I was working in the Arctic.
Skin cracking, and chapped up.
But no lasting effects thankfully

Happy Birthday!! (early)
Yeah, at 49, I have white shoulder length hair. I feel like I'm stuck in the 1990's and still listen to grunge, metal, rock. I still play guitar, electric bass mainly but I'm not in any bands anymore. Some days I feel older with back pain, but some days I just block out the pain.
To answer the question if I've grown up and feel my age? No, screw the worries.

I felt absolutely nothing leading up to my 40th birthday.

Then, the day it happened - it hit me HARD!!!

We feel immortal for the most part of our lives. Then the 40 happens…..

The self reflection of coulda, woulda, shoulda’s.

When I hit 40 I didn't even know I was 40 until like 2 years later. I really wasn't paying attention.

40 is pretty chill. 50 and fat, not so much. stay healthy, it's easier to get fat than skinny.
Happy Birthday brother! Have a glass of your finest on me. (symbolically, you have to pay for it)

Thanks for the words of encouragement from everyone!
I 100% appreciate it more than you could ever know.

It’s really been bothering me.
Had the same thing or at least similar when I turned 25.
Did a whole self reflection thing for months leading up to 25.

And now that 40 is here… man… it scares me.
But really nothing is changing.
I’m still a father.
I’ll still be the man tomorrow, that I am today.
I just hope I can continue to improve upon myself.
Be the best person I can be, everyday.

Thank you all again.

I still look younger than I am, but it's starting to show. I've never been married or have children, so that's kind of my trick to looking somewhat youthful.

Tomorrow I take my sister to the doctor's after my physical therapy appointment, preparing for my 3rd left knee surgery.

A couple weeks ago I saw my first Doobie Brothers concert. Much different pace than the Van Halen, MegaTalica, StoneSurSlipKnot concerts. Much more enjoyable.👍🏼😁

take it easy on the knee. I have found concerts are more enjoyable when you are awake. At least I was told that.

When I turned a Quarter Century old, I was at work and a crappy day it was. I didn't want to be bothered as it was starting to set in that this was my life. My father called me at work to wish me happy 25th birthday.

By 30 I was miffed and starting to feel the toll of my job on my body. I was also feeling late in life as I had a stable job, home... but no wife or kids. 35 on beat the hell out of me till this very day.

I turn the phones off for my birthday, been doing it since February of 2005.

I'm starting only now to become more at peace where I am in my life. I have a Bucket List that grows bigger by the day. The regret of the things I have done or have not done is still weighing on me though.

You're still young, but wiser than most I know.
