I often sift through scientific news articles and most of them are hard to read for people who don't have a science background.
Even the websites that target the general population seem to lack writers who are able to transform scientific studies into easy reads for everyone.

Today I came across this gem on Science allert, a re-publish from TheConversation website!
It is funny and understandable. (but mostly funny)

If they wrote every article this way, science would become a lot more popular and most people would finally be able to understand.
I laughed out loud when I read it so I thought I'd share (you'll have to read it for yourself though)

The nose…..

I thought it was a quick Sunday morning the other thing.
By oneself.

Great Kindra, that article speaks right to me. It mentions the size of the first digit and how it fits the nostril so nicely. Not in my case, only my pinky can invade that cave. But yes, it does a very good job of making entertaining important information on how to help ourselves stay healthy. Thanks for that.

Nose picking may also be associated with an increased risk of Golden Staph transmission to wounds, where it poses a more serious risk.

That's some information I could have lived with out on this nice gentle Sunday morning. However the cinematic imagery is inspiring and horrific
all at the same time.

Pretty sure I’m already 100% on that unless you are the one rummaging through my trash like a bear peeking in my windows.

Always do exactly what they say is good for you is my motto.

I've always thought the kid instinct to pick and eat was a form of self vaccination against the microcosm. We went from my generation being raised with everything sterilized then they decided it was raising issues such as asthma and allergies, then we go natural and they freak out bad, bad, gardening causes heart attacks in the covid era.

Honestly, it's only the minds that are being prepared for weakness. First the mind, then the body. House of cards.

Editing to add... it's the wiping it elsewhere that is gross. Down the hatch is a public service for the good.

I know I'm disgusting. Seeing myself out the door now...

LOL

Another helpful scientific study that reveals picking your nose often invokes the same gamble we indulge by participating in almost literally any activity. Do a quick Google and read the statistics about eating bugs, eating dirt, fecal exposure, both airborne and surface dwelling bacteria, the microbial organisms currently colonizing on your flesh, the pollutants generated by industry, the toxic ingredients that regularly contaminate your groceries. The rabbit hole will destroy your motivation to exist if you stare too deep.

I also read a lot of research and am surprised how many supposedly professional people misinterpret them. Most do not say what "experts" say they say...it takes quite a bit of time to properly assess what they say and most times they don't say anything other than a correlation but that does not stop people from twisting them to fit their beliefs.

I try to translate what they actually say so I can share the information and it is often difficult to put it in layman's terms. So I know what you are saying is true.

I usually check out some interpretations to see if they are interpreted correctly, and surprisingly, some times the evidence is presented in good simple articles....I always check it out to verify if it is mostly correct though before repeating it.

This article is kind of funny that you presented. And it seems to be pretty true too.

The thing it does not address is crusty boogers stuck in your nose, blowing them out does not work. So sometimes I pick my nose and stick it on kleenex. You tend to nose breath more when doing dusty stuff and it builds up in there and hardens. So I am guilty of picking my nose sometimes...The kleenex sometimes falls apart when putting it around your pinky too, sometimes I use paper towel. Try doing a brake job, the dust blown off fills the air and a mask is a big inconvenience, the safety glasses fog up and that is not good when using power tools or torches when you cannot see well.

I can't lie, I do pick my nose occasional, just like most people do on occasion.

I looked up the author of the article, or authors because they wrote it with 3 of them. None of their other articles have this kind of humor in them so I guess it was a one time thing with a lighter topic.

ooh, the crusties are the horrible ones! They give me nosebleeds.
When I first moved here and started to spend a lot of time outside, in the garden and in the woods, I was horrified at first to find out my snoz was black! From the sand and dirt that is... took me a while to figure it out! LOL
But it shows the purpose of our boogers
I don't care what the article says, if I know for sure that my nose is full of black snot, it HAS to come out one way or another!

Weird how the majority of people find snot disgusting. Maybe it's an instinct that tells us it's a bacterial bomb... I also thought the pick and eat thing that kids do strengthens their immune system. Still think it is, they eat bacteria so what else can the body do then build a defense for it?

wiping it somewhere IS gross! Or randomly flicking it .... that is the stuff I try not to think about when sitting in a movie theater or restaurant, or holding the bars on public transportation

Back in highschool, one of things we had to do as punishment, was clean the chairs, especially under the seats, pick off all the chewinggum... and who knows what else! *cringe*

C'mon...there's nothing better than pinching a crusty snot-flake from the front of your nostril...slowly pulling it out...and finding it's connected to a whole string of semi-gelatinous goo you pull out from deep inside your snoz.

Admit it...AWESOME experience...amiright?

It is so strange that the first line of defense of our immune system is the creation of mucous. The first thing people do when they have symptoms of a disease is take anti-mucousal meds, antihistamines, and stuff that stops them from caughing up the crap in their lungs...basically they are dampening their immune system before they go to work or out anywhere.

I did learn the hard way that sometimes you have to take something that blocks severe coughs from popping your ribs out of socket...The resulting sore back for a month is really bad. I have not figured out an anti-spasmonic natural remedy yet but use the special cough syrup sparingly that has that quality.
